Comments (28)OH....belated Happy B'day Suzanne! I've been 'off board' and will be more or less over the next couple of weeks with my job. Thanks Patti for the addresses. I will be working on my cards soon - yippeeeee! I know not everyone reads on Sunday so I will write all my news on notepad and post it all tomorrow! Keeping myself more than busy these days and starting a few new ventures. Today is rec room clear out/Peggy's craft/sewing center setup. I can't work anymore with my stuff everywhere and this house looks like a football team ran through it with piles of stuff here and there - AGAIN! AAAAauuuuggghhhhh! So getting it all in a designated zone - off the kitchen table area, away from my couch area where I sit and out of the bedroom where I throw stuff I have bought for projects...it should make a huge difference and much easier to clean up around here. Also mentally make me feel a world better. Clutter is depressing. We moved the 2 large dressers waiting for pick up from my Mom's estate to the workshop and I've emailed everyone to let them know since they have not picked them up they are moved outside into the workshop until someone comes and gets them. I also clearly noted that I am not responsible for any water/humidity damage that may occur if they are not picked up. I would not put it past a 'dear' sibling to pull this one over nothing at all given the opportunity. So that is that and the other huge couch-chair was hauled to the charity shop yesterday with another 2 huge bags of stuff. Now I just have to dismantle a dilapidated old pull out couch for the garbage but that will be another weekend. I'm happy with the space at present. So that's me. I'm off to go play in my new space - er - fold up, box up, put away the stuff in there PROPERLY and set up for my projects. Stay tuned, more news tomorrow! Lots of love to all of my pals here - I miss ya when I am not here everyday...not enough hours right now. Peggy...See MoreHoliday GTKY
Comments (16)1. What's the best present you every bought someone? Trying to remember! I have such a large family and it's been so many years of holidays... Made for someone? Before we got married, one year I gave my (future then) MIL hand embroidered pillows. Took me months to do them and she kept them on the couch for years. 2. What is one holiday related food you won't eat? I'm also going to double down on this question: fruitcake and all those fancy baked goods. No offense, but I just don't care for cookies tricked up with all the gunk. 3. What is your favorite holiday food? I would say turkey but since I do both T'giving and Xmas at my house now, I just can't handle a full on turkey fest twice in a month. I think this year I'll do chicken piccata, which I also like. I can make it ahead and then warm it up, make my famous 'taters in a bag' (Idahoan dried flakes, they are amazingly good), a green salad, bakery french baguettes and voila, a holiday feast! 4. What is the biggest inconvenience about the holidays? Crowds. Although I do a lot/most of my shopping online it is a huge hassle to go anywhere and do anything because of all the folks out doing their bricks n mortar thing. And, living in a tourist town whose high season gets underway right now, the cars and congestion and hassle factor is magnified hugely. 5. What is your favorite thing that happened LAST year at this time? I vividly recall during the holidays having a moment sitting quietly in the house, with the tree lit, candles burning, holiday music on and realizing that I was so utterly blessed: my family all healthy and together, my children growing into fine young adults, a solid marriage, a home, financial security. I'm an extremely fortunate person....See MoreHomemade gifts, anyone?
Comments (83)Thank you all for the kind words about my canning lockers. I am lucky to have a great husband who finds (very cheap) garage sale stuff for me, but of course I am at work when he's careening around the countryside with the kid, so it's, I don't know, kind of bittersweet? I have the (much) higher income potential, so I work full time, but I envy the flexibility and time with our kid that he has. Ah well, the road not taken always beckons and as a family we are *extremely* fortunate that we can have a SAHP. My grandparents had canning shelves in their basement too, I hadn't thought of them in a long time, so it was a great memory jog. Of course theirs were much more full than mine, and their arsenal included food as well as several kinds of wine, beer and liquors, and, yes, they were poor and Scottish (cheap, make your own food part) and Irish (the drinkers), why do you ask (wink)? Maybe in my dottage I'll take up wine making, but I might not give that away! This thread is such an enjoyable learning experience, and count me among the folks who continue to marvel at the myriad of talents of the posters. I have stolen several recipes and many, many great gift ideas. sandyponder...See MoreNovember is nearly here - time to order Advent and Hannukah calendars
Comments (19)Aldi's also has a wine calendar. Do I expect it to be first quality wines? Why would I? I drink wines of various types and not all would be what I would consider drinkable. This is the first year that I have even seen one but I may make a trip to one of the local stores on November 2 just for something different....See Morecarolb_w_fl_coastal_9b
