feedback needed on indoor grow light set up
Comments (9)Hello Ronalvio, Sounds like you have a nice set up going for your plumeria. I myself have a 650 watt HPS light. Now I have been told to keep my light on for more like 16-18 hours a day. If your just trying to keep your trees leafed out, then 10 hours may be fine, but if your goal is to have trees that produce inflos and flower buds, your going to need to keep it on longer. I had many trees that had inflos and at first I was keeping my light on for 10 hours and I had bud drop. Now for your fan, all that really matters is that your fan is blowing air on the leaves and branches. That way your keeping any bugs off of your trees. Good luck with your set up and keep us posted, and if you have more questions feel free to ask away! Andrew...See MoreLet’s see your color riot!
Comments (47)Skibby, know I haven't planted goatsbeard in that garden, but not sure what it (between the two areas of phlox 'Laura') is. Extreme right: is something like a dracaena in one of my customer's planters on a stone column behind. Last visit, cut the Kashmiri tree mallow back (pink flower above the liatris) to expose the phlox behind. Thinking it's too early for that height from other tall perennials planted in that location. You've got me wondering. Going to check on visit tomorrow. Thanks re combination. I plant and tend to it all, but there's always an element of chance that hopefully is corrected (e.g. pulling out wild running goldenrod and asters, inside the beds, before they've really got going). Kali_c, am very fond of that size of dahlia in areas too small for a perennial bed. Your's currently look much better than mine. For the first time in ten or so years of using medium-sized dahlias, I'm trying to deal with mildew on the leaves....See MoreIndoors, do you provide humidity and what is your system or set up?
Comments (41)Hi Nancy! Becareful about feeding the leaves with fertilizer. If it's a very very weak solution I can't see any harm but I don't make it a habit. I don't mind spring them down with fish emulsion and organic seaweed though. When talking about orchid care, many people use the words “feeding” and “fertilizing” interchangeably. It’s a common assumption that orchid fertilizer “feeds” the plant; but rather than providing a meal, fertilizing orchids is more like giving it a vitamin pill . Like other plants, Phalaenopsis orchids and others use photosynthesis to create their own food from water, carbon dioxide and the sun’s energy. Orchid roots absorb water from rain and humidity in the air and carry it to the leaves. The plants leaves absorb carbon dioxide from the air through pores called “stomata.” The pigment chlorophyll, which gives leaves their green color, absorbs the sun’s energy. Plants use that energy to break down the water molecules in their leaves into oxygen and hydrogen. Some of the oxygen is used by the plant but most is expelled into the air. The hydrogen combines with carbon dioxide in the plant’s cells to create sugar which is what actually feeds the plant. Fertilizer drenches applied to the root system are the most efficient way of supplying most mineral nutrients to your orchids but when plants are stressed, have root damage or nutrient deficiencies, foliar feeding can provide a quick fix. ... Plant leaves are specialized organs for capturing light and carbon dioxide....See MorePlease, let’s see your succulent garden pots ! Colors ?
Comments (7)I don't have a lot of succulents and some of them are in my winter holding area. But these are a couple. Group of three. Two echeverias and some sort of tiny sedum. This planter was very happy outdoors all summer. Now it's under a grow light on my plant shelf. And I've had this trailing aloe in this mid-century modern planter for years. I've cut it back and propagated it more times than I can remember. It's almost bonsai-esque now. There isn't much else in the planter with it but I see some space that may be available to plant something new!...See MoreMeyermike(Zone 6a Ma.)
