Gift ideas and sales!

I know a lot of you are fans of Penzeys herbs and spices, so you might already know that they running a promotion. I think it might be just two days, ending tomorrow. $50 gift cards are $35, and three sizes of gift boxes are heavily discounted. Plus they're tossing in several freebies with your order. I've been waiting for a good sale from them, and ordered some gifts this morning.

Also, thanks to an ad I saw in my Facebook news feed (I'm not usually grateful for them) I discovered an excellent gift for people who enjoy the outdoors.

All Outdoors Atlas and Field Guide

Not all states are represented, but I can tell you the PA book I received is big and comprehensive and beautiful, and I was inspired to order two more.

I saw this yesterday. When you look at the Michigan map is shows a Northern book and a southern book.

Well I am 11 driveways north of the southern/northern line!!!

We had the same problem for years. We have a group of seven couples (all close in age). We would take trips together once every year or so but during the year we would take turns hosting a monthly dinner. Of course this always necessitated a hostess gift. All of us are comfortably off and at our age have everything (material) that we want or need. It drove me crazy because I was constantly being gifted with craft type items. I am just not into cutesy things and I had a difficult time coming up with items that I thought the other ladies would enjoy or use. I failingly ended up giving food items or fresh flowers. We all finally came to a consensus that we should stop doing hostess gifts and at Christmas put funds together to donate to a charity. Thank goodness! The pressure every month is off and we can give to those in need. It's a win/win.

I gave both of my kids a grad party when they graduated from HS. Both were essentially the same. Sunday afternoon around 2 pm. Lots (LOTS) of munchies - chips, dips, veggies, cookies, brownies, cheese, that sort of thing. No activities were planned. I invited my close friends, and they invited their friends. I served wine for the adults, cokes for the kids. Everyone sat around munching & schmoozing and a good time was had by all. Simple. For gifts, I recommend things that have to do with the college they will be going to (for those who are going). T-shirt, sweat shirt, rug for dorm room, blanket, etc, with college logo. If they are going away to another city, books with information on that city. Mostly my kids got checks for gifts, but a few people gave them what I just named above and they liked those gifts a lot.

Those atlas's can also be purchased in a Kindle edition on Amazon.

Maifleur, when I ordered the Eastern and Western PA volumes they gave me the Kindle versions for free. I would have a hard time using an Atlas on my Kindle though. Call it a lack of Kindle skill if you like, but if it's the sort of book where I'd want to look things up, or flip around to different pages, I prefer a regular book.

Alisande, you can take the free Kindle versions, and then look at them via the free Kindle app (from Amazon) that you can use on your computer (Windows or Mac), or on an iPad, etc.

Sephora's holiday sale is going on now through November 9, but their top discount is 20% (for Rouge-level members). The Ordinary's products are highly rated and very inexpensive. FYI, Atlantic Spice is waaay cheaper than Penzey's & the quality is excellent.

Ouch, Chi! But it's probably happened to all of us in one way or another. I'm waiting for my favorite online printer to announced a half-price sale on DIY Christmas cards so I can get my card printed. They've come through for me every year, and I hope this year will be no different. But with all these companies it's a matter of wondering how long we can wait and still get the product we want.

This is just a suggestion but if you wait for a smaller company to have a sale. Don't, if you can afford not to. There are many small merchants that are in trouble. I was thinking about this tonight as I wondered if my favorite pistachio place would have a discount and how much it will be.

I could be wrong, but I don't think of that online print company as small. They cater to pro photographers as well as amateur, and having no brick-and-mortar overhead plus lots of people staying home and taking pictures I would hope the pandemic hasn't been hard on them.

But your suggestion is a good one, Maifleur, especially for people who can afford to be generous.
