You are right! The kitchen is 12' x 12'- I had subtracted the 4 foot stairs in my mind, to 12' x 8'. So embarrassed. So I spent this morning checking the measurements-pretty sure it is correct now. robotropolis: to the side of the 36" refrigerator is a 3" plaster wall which helps incorporate the 4" square spiral stair case the previous owner installed. The kitchen sink/range run at 144" is cramped. Thankfully it is not limited by distance to the corner wall (48" is the narrowest, range directly across to corner wall edge by opening to the pantry) nor to refrigerator (82"). There are 3 doors: one to hallway by the stairs, and a pass by kitchen route from back door to the dining room. I did want to make the pantry sink a clean up sink, separate from the prep sink. If I replaced the current DW location to the pantry base area, this could be accomplished and I still am giving that serious consideration for precisely what you noticed, smaloney. Thanks. I understand it is best to keep it all on one thread, but this "L" corner wall, like them all, is truly design challenged.

Not all RTA are junk,but there's junk out there. Shop around. See the cabinets in person to inspect the quality or lack of. Some RTA come finished on all sides, some need a skin. In addition, a decorative door panel can be added for extra detail.

You need a different design and different proportions. The overlay of the cabinets will impact how much glass is visible as well. I’d suggest eliminating the tall cabinet entirely in favor of lowers and uppers. You really do not lose much storage, but you get a far better look. I’d add a beverage fridge, or a beverage fridge and a wine fridge, depending on your libation of choice. With a 120” ceiling, I’d want at least 9” of a compound molding. That leaves 57”H for cabinets. That is a 42” + 15”, a 39”+18”, a 36”+a 21”, or a 33”+ 24”. The ideal stacking proportions are a 2:1 ratio. I’d probably do the 39+ 18, unless you’re doing insert, which has the glass 3” smaller than full overlay. If you’re doing inset, I’d want the 36+21 to be sure that enough glass would be proportionate.

Intended use? No idea. Ha! We don’t have a ton of closet space -and no attic space, so wanted to build in as much storage as was feasible. And just wasn’t sure what I’d do with that space otherwise. This may house games, or spare linens, or Christmas decorations, or -no idea. But I’m sure it’ll get filled up with something.
