Yes, that sounds right. You could have 1 pico control embedded in the wall and another floating since the pico control is the device that remembers which switch it controls. Alternatives could involve 1. An alarm system - Alarm.com or SimpliSafe controlling lights. Alarm.com and SimpliSafe utilize z-wave, so you could have 2 z-wave switches in the wall and a key fob that turns the lights on/off. The downside is that z-wave may have the reliable performance you desire. 2. A RadioRA2 starter kit. (3. Professionally installed Control4 or RadioRA2 (starter kit to full blown) 4. Wifi controlled bulbs - LiFX or Hue. This could be impractical and is definitely costly since the bulbs are always powered even when not lit. I'd recommend that you think about what else you'd like to automate as 1. Caseta switches cannot be added directly to a RadioRA2 controller if you decide to install Lutron's full blown HA system. 2. Things will get complicated and probably expensive quickly regardless of which option you pick (excluding the forget about it option).

Thank you for the replies and suggestions! We are doing tape lights for under the cabinets but we chose to do the puck lights in the upper cabinets to match cabinetry in the adjacent family room. I found some pictures on houzz that convinced my husband that one puck per door will look better, so that issue is resolved. Next issue, halogen or LED for the tape lights. My husband wants halogen to highlight the sparkly bits in the granite, makes no difference to me(don't tell him though), so he wins that round!

The reviews on Amazon don't give me that warm fuzzy feeling. :) There's only 6 reviews and half of them are bad. That is, if you read the actual review. There are a couple of 4 stars that don't sound like they should be 4 stars if you read the comment. Now that it actually exists, I wonder how many people are willing to spend 30 bucks plus shipping for it. As a side note, this thread seems like one that lots of people feel the need to sign up for a Houzz account, make one comment on this thread pointing everyone at SwitchFlip and then not participating in any other discussions. Is it possible that these people have an ulterior motive in promoting this product? :)

Frankly, I don't get the whole "connected" (and expensive) light bulb thing and can't figure out why I need something more than the light switch I already have. If I happen to leave the lights on in the other room and don't get off my butt to turn them off, these new fangled energy saving bulbs are so cheap to operate than even if I left them on overnight I might have wasted a nickel. I'd have to do that many times before I recoup the incremental cost of the "connected" bulbs. But maybe there's some advantage I'm missing (beyond another excuse to look at my phone)...
