OMG! I am laughing so hard, I can't breathe and am coughing! I can't even read all of the comments. Having 3 dogs,one who loves to upchuck everything, anywhere, I can empathize. But I must say wait til you have a dead frog in your drier! I did, couldn't figure out where the smell was, kept rewashing stinky clothes. Then I got out my flashlight and stuck in the lint trap was this poor flattened frog. I don't know how he got in there unless my son, at that time around 6, had it in a pocket. What a stench. I think I used a few boxes of fabric softner sheets before it finally smelled okay. I hope you wiped the chunks up before you ran the machine!

Well, here's an update: I threw them out. All but one (the only one out of 8 that wasn't chipped!) We had to pack up the china cabinet so the building could do some work in the walls, and I said, "Instead of putting these in a box to store them, I'm going to put them in a box and throw them away." I put them in a box bcs, since they're drinking glasses, they don't go in the regular glass recycling--and even if they did, they'd break, and our building superintendent would get slashed. I wedged them in, taped it well, and labeled it "broken glass." One of them did break on the way to the elevator. And then my husband dropped the box deliberately to smash them further. He had some explanation about wanting them to be in smaller pieces that wouldn't be able to poke their way through the box, but I think it was just that he liked the sound of breaking glass, and could indulge the destructive urge without feeling destructive, LOL! I told him, "have fun!" I have a pair of wine glasses we were given that have a chip on one of them. I'm working up the nerve to throw them out. And our best crystal has chips on a few as well. I really do need to find some other crystal, and just plan to buy a bunch of it, and ditch all of these. And I don't think I'm ever going to put crystal in the DW again. But--that's a bunch of space freed up, and I feel really good about it. (I put the one unchipped glass into rotation for regular drinking, and I've decided that the outwardly flared rim is really, really annoying, so now I *really* don't feel bad.)

I don't like coffee in styrofoam cups ... ... for concern about possible/probable? transfer of possibly undesirable chemicals .. ... as well as less than usually attractive taste. For conservationist and pollutant factors, as well: as I've said here several times ... I live within a couple of miles of Canada's largest city's garbage dump (that's one of those four-letter words, you know). Call it a "landfill" if you prefer - which looks to me much like a double four-letter word. ole joyful

Thanks, Elmer. Anything fragile or of value we tend to hand wash anyway. Not to mention that we've been putting these glasses in the dishwasher for a few years, and using the Cascade Action Pacs for 5 months, both without previous issue. The only new factor is the iced coffee with cream. I happened to have a similar glass from a winery visit last year, so I dug that out and had iced coffee in it this morning. I don't mind if it gets ruined, so I will run the dishwasher in a bit and see what happens. Ci_lantro, thanks for the article. I'll check it out. While these glasses are not expensive (just plain ol' glasses from Costco) and so not the highest quality, we use them all the time for water and never had a problem with etching. The only new thing is the iced coffee with cream. The glasses that have not been used for iced coffee are not etched. (I know this because I noticed the etching right away and set the two glasses aside and haven't used any of the other glasses for coffee. We use them for just water, and no other glasses have become etched.)
