birds nest fern turning brown at the edges

I have a birds nest fern indoors in a pretty low light window--West facing, but with a tree in front of it and an overhang--and have added a grow light. The fern is turning brown/limp around the edges and has maybe some scorch marks. The dying parts seem almost soggy. It started before I added the grow light, but has gotten worse since. Now I think maybe the problem is too much light, but I don't know for sure. It is right over the kitchen sink, so I think it should have enough moisture and the soil feels consistently moist even though I am not watering it that often (once a week?). Please be gentle with me. I'm trying to learn how to keep houseplants alive but I just don't know how to tell what is wrong. Should I move it to a darker place and remove the grow light? Should I increase the time the grow light is on or change the color (it can do blue/red/full spectrum)? My house is very dark generally and there aren't a lot of natural light options.
