@CeresMerZone7aNJ sigh, thank you 😔 I know I should have taken photos but I did not because it was honestly too hard to accept. I can take photos in the morning but after all my cutting I'm not sure how clear the damage would be for comparison.

First prize is yellowing and down to canes only, almost cutting to main cane now. There is yellowing along with dreaded black and brown 😭

I googled the kocide 200 and it seems to be copper based, which in my limited knowledge I though we were supposed to use during dormant period For black spot. for aphids I mostly used water jets and sometimes soap. wondering why the garden center would recommend that? I would say keep it hydrated and out of so much sun until They recover.

That's exactly what I wrote telling them. I also diluted it more than I was told for that reason. Thing is, we don't have an exact period of dormancy since we don't have winter. Will continue TLC as you recommended and see how it goes *praying

If they've been in full sun at 100+ degrees, it may be too hot for them. My roses are pretty much defoliated and have both yellowing and blackened canes at the base even in part shade locations/shade cloth. The only ones that are doing well are in pots and full shade until after 5pm. Just a wild guess.

RaeAnna, you are doing the right thing by moving the plants out of the sun and flushing the soil. Thrips usually come and go on their own, being seasonal. I know nothing about gardening in the Caribbean, so they may be all season long there, and that would be hard to take. Keep doing what you're doing and hold off on any feeding until they start to recover. It may not totally have been the fungicide, but a combination of that and the heat. Or, the direct sun and heat alone could have caused the wilting and leaf drop whether you sprayed or not. I bet they recover.

Thank you!!! This is giving me hope! I sound like white the novice when I say - unfortunately I fed a week after spraying and then this all happened - tumbling down. Could overfeeding in terms of accidentally using too much fertilizer cause this? I believe I used the correct amount and this is on a side note, Bc I’d like to know for general info. I do think I contributed to this by feeding after the damage that was occurring but not yet visible to the naked eye

If you used an organic food, it won't do as much harm as a synthetic chemical based one. For potted roses, the general rule is 'weakly, weekly'. A diluted solution or very few granules on a weekly basis, watered in well. The container usually says to feed monthly or seasonally. When you fed them, you didn't know they were stressed. It's not only novices who do things like this, but that's how we learn.

You've gone through a lot with your roses.

I don't have any advice except to water. Maybe put a lawn chair over. Also if the plant has a lot of cane, maybe cut it back a bit so that the roots don't have to support as much cane length? BUT...don't do this unless someone here confirms this. I don't want to tell you the wrong thing.

What you could do next time if there's thrips is to do what some people here have been doing. Cover the soil with something (not sure what since I can't remember what they said) so that the thrips don't fall down into the soil and continue their life cycles. Or, you could get some blue or yellow sticky sheets (Amazon) ... thrips are attracted to those colors and they get stuck. Or get blue solo cups and coat them with some kind of cheap vegetable oil.

To be honest, the woman seemed a little clueless when I asked specifics and simply said “come with me - this can be used for many rose diseases and it’s what we treat our roses with. Drench the plant using one teaspoon in 1 gallon of water”. Horrible, I know. It didn’t look like black spot, looked like more than one issue - I will post here

According to your picture, I would do nothing. Nothing really kills but over watering. Thrips are so heavy in my yard, that I have few flowers in summer and even into fall. But the drift rose that started the epidemic years ago(now I recalled) is now non stop in bloom. I just learned this thing called thrips this summer. It does not kill.

All the roses I got were own root that were already potted when I bought them with leaves. Haven’t been over fertilizing, have been doing monthly feeding - with recent use of banana peels also. This photo isn’t the thrips, they affected my pearly gates and my chicago peace (2) which haven’t been growing very well. All new buds, shoots, leaves were attacked continuously- brown and curly deformed leaves, shoots became brown and died before being allowed to grow and buds were brown and deformed, some partially opened and edges of flowers were brown also. This was what led me to post and that’s how I finally found the culprit. Initially I did nothing but remove foliage looking that way, thinking it was all the extreme heat. The above photos are of my Dublin bay climber which led the garden centre to advise me on spraying. I was totally anti spray and pesticide for so many reasons. I’m always smelling my flowers and touching canes and buds as all my plants are new, getting a feel and learning about all of them, my niece and nephew are around the area and especially with my 5 giant babies (my dogs) that are running in the yard! This was what led me to do a very dilute mixture in the first place. My plan was to spray one and wait but after doing such a dilution I decided ok, maybe it won’t be too bad. I don’t plan on using chemicals ever again in the future. It’s too scary and way too risky to health. I’ve since then fed once but I followed the instructions to a T, however, perhaps feeding after spraying was wrong. Not sure.
They’re out of the blazing sun now, one day at a time

My Chicago peace (both) look like the photos I’ve seen of grafted roses but I can’t tell for sure. The same woman who advised me to use kocide told me their roses were own root at the store. They import from weeks roses and I purchase them already tagged and growing, but usually the container is small so I reported them all.

To me those pics you posted looks like spider mites, not blackspot or thrips. Especially in the 2nd and 4th pic where the underside of leaves looks bronze and tiny pepper-like light colored specs can be seen. The non-chemical solution for spider mites would be to give a hard spray of water to the underside of leaves, several days apart, several times (to blast them away and break their breeding cycle). Specific miticides can also be used, but a copper drench wouldn’t affect mites.

Photo update of pearly gates which was believed to be the one attacked by thrips initially - I read online that thrips attack brightly coloured roses and I’ve seen this to be true since only my chicago peace and pearly gates plants seem to have this brown curly appearance on leaves and buds

I think it is spider mites too..... They can defoliate your plant. If you do not get them under control they can kill the plant. As Ben said, you should wash the leaves off.... especially the undersides.... I would do it in the morning daily for a week or two.... if you get the mites off the plant then new leaves will start to form, but if the mites stay you will just lose leaves and no new ones will form....
