I'm not at all familiar with Shiloh, but a quick Google brings these up:

And I realize I'm probably in the minority, but I have no problem with a whiter or cooler or greyer countertop (Carrara or Calacatta) with a warmer, creamier base cabinet or vanity. I think this seems to be a very recent, very North American bias or hang-up which isn't found in the UK or Europe.

What colors are you thinking of for the walls?

A wood vanity goes with almost any “white” counter color. It will also warm up a cold bathroom like no other material. Walnut and white is a great combo, no matter if the aesthetic is modern or traditional. Plus it hold up looking nice far longer than paint does in a stressful humid environment.

Beckysharp - I found (and read) those discussions, too! You know, I have a white kitchen - creamy white cabinets and bright white appliances. I love my kitchen. The two different whites do not detract. If anything, they add depth and interest. Why would it be any different with stone/vanity?

As far as the walls go, they could be any color. I'm going to be painting them myself (and/or enlisting my cute & handy partner) and that won't happen until after the contractor is done. I probably won't decide until then, either.

Celadon - good point about wood. I'm being super indecisive and keep changing my mind... Will open myself up to the possibility of wood.

I posted above about bringing my Shiloh samples to Sherwin Williams and finding the closest chip color, so that when I return the *actual* samples, I'll have paint chips I to help me choose other finishes. I walked into the SW and told the associate my plan and he said: we can put your samples in the machine and it will give us our closest match.

Here's a photo of my samples with the corresponding closest-match chips. I'm very pleased, they're definitely close enough for my purposes:

Shiloh color - Sherwin Williams:

Polar White - Greek Villa

Soft White - Restful White

Eggshell - Lotus Pod

Ivory - Eaglet Beige

Beige - Accessible Beige

Greek Villa or Restful white look good. Lotus pond looks pink, and Eglet Beige looks yellow on my screen. Accessible Beige is a nice color, I used it all over my Dad's house for the walls, but I think it's too washed out if what you are trying to do is lean more towards having a white vanity.

I think I'm getting confused -- do you want to match the vanity color to the wall color?

Also, I remember a recent post about having art in the bathroom. Moving backwards from vanity to wall paint, what wall paint do you want to have as a good backdrop to the art you want to highlight?

AJCN - I agree about the too pink and too yellow colors. Initially, I seriously considered doing an *actual* color for my vanity, but didn't love any of the available colors and really didn't like how much could limit my other decisions - particularly any art I'd want to put on the walls. I veered toward white-ish only because I wanted something pretty neutral and light, that would leave me plenty of options for other finishes and art. BTW - I just stopped at a local countertop supplier and based on the pieces of Quartz & Quartzite remnants I was drawn to, the associate suggested I go with the Accessible Beige color as being the most versatile.

Beckysharp - no, definitely not matching vanity to the wall! I have to return the actual color samples to my vanity supplier, and wanted chips that were similar to the vanity color(s) to use to make other finish selections. I don't know what color I'm going to paint the walls. I'm going to do that myself after the contractor is done with everything else. I'm not feeling a big rush to make a wall decision since that will happen later and is inexpensive & easy to change (and likely I'll repaint every bunch of years anyway.)

I like the softer/off whites -- top center, and bottom right.

But to be fair, I've never been a fan of Accessible Beige or any of the greiges. I painted my sons' rooms in our new house Revere Pewter under protest, but drew the line at the basement family room where they hang out most of the time. It's BM Windham Cream, which is the same color I have on my bathroom wall which I really like a lot. But then I live in Alberta where we already have snow, and I need to make my own sunshine : ) .
