Replacement windows for 1979 Garrison with crummy aluminum windows
Comments (6)Would much energy efficiency be gained by replacing 30 year old Anderson casement windows? My garage was converted into a bedroom by the previous owners and they're definitely better than the aluminum windows in the rest of the house, but the room still feels cold. But that could be because of the total surface area of the window space....See Morealuminum windows in Houston

Comments (15)Yes, if wood they can be painted. We planned to paint ours but then when the windows were placed in the house we loved the wood. The wood was stained (pine in our case) to match Douglas Fir trim. Everybody has their own taste but we figured we could always paint the wood later; if it's aluminum on inside homeowner never gets a chance to stain, obviously. Apparently wood insulates better than aluminum but not sure how significant it is overall. Wood would have a warmer and more pleasant feel than metal on the inside, but I guess who touches the sills often? https://www.energy.gov/energysaver/window-types-and-technologies#:~:text=Wood%20window%20frames%20insulate%20relatively,have%20slightly%20lower%20thermal%20performance. Here's closeup from this morning and a couple of pics of the windows/glass doors, all alum. outside & pine inside (all Pella)......See MoreAluminum Window Makers
