Q regarding Adenium arabicum. Black Pearl.
Comments (12)Hi Sharon, didn't see many seeds for sale other than tourist type pkts of palms/cycad/strelitzia in the beach shops along the Paseo, and as I have several already I didn't purchase. No doubt there would have been more choice had we found the true gardening shops. The only 'plant' I bought back were the 4 little snapped off pieces from underneath the Crassula I posted about a few days ago, it was such a lovely colour. Think they had been there for some time as they were rather dry and the ends were quite calloused over. Maybe knocked off by a clumsy dog trying to balance on 3 legs? lol!! Sorry to read your babies are suffering, damping off is normally due to a combination of wet and warm....just the conditions the babies need to sprout and grow for a few weeks after germinating. Try to keep them on the drier side now theyre a little older as they can cope with cooler conditions if grown dry as opposed to cold and wet. You have email btw, Gill....See Moreblack cherry or black pearl?
Comments (3)Jennie, there are few varieties I can tell from just looking at pictures. What I can tell you is that Black Pearl is an F1 hybrid offered by Burpee and is a take off on Black Cherry, but is smaller than Black Cherry, an OP bred by Vince Sapp, and most who have grown both prefer the taste of Black Cherry. At this point the only way I can suggest, which isn't worth it, is to save seeds from the fruits, the F2 seeds, sow them again next year, put out as many plants as you can and if the fruits and plants are all identical it would be Black Cherry. And if Black pearl there would be differences in plants and fruits due to what's called Genetic segregation. I don't know how much that helps, but it's the best I can do right now. Comments (5)Our pool is Black Pearl, just finished this spring- if you use the box to search this forum at the bottom of the page and put in Leesburg, you should see a few posts where we have some pictures? I can take some close ups if you're interested as well- we don't have any shells in the pool- we're happy with the look as we were going for more of a pond/lagoon to fit in to our yard and landscaping. Good luck with the decision....See MoreRedbud, black leaf tips, hair under leaf.
Comments (8)Extension offices all have master gardeners working out of them. Typically the extension agent (or farm advisor as he/she is called in CA) only works with commercial entities. The MGs are the 'retail' arm. They can go to the extension agent for advice if they are stumped. That is exactly what the MG program is for....See Moresplaker
