Kitchen cabinets confusion
Comments (6)I also am doing the cabinet search now and finding mid priced cabinets is harder than going dirt cheap or high end. Having planned and replanned this for over a year, I will tell you that I have found lowes/hd to be pricier than a kitchen shop. I am pricing kraftmaid, diamond and medallion silverline. If you know what you can live with spending, say that upfront. Know that doing a solid wood door vs veneer drives the cost up by a lot. So does having all plywood. Case in point , from a KD I got 2 quotes for the exact same design. Showplace (all wood) was 12k, medallion silverline ( veneer door, particle board sides) was 8k. I got a Shiloh quote last year, different door but was also 12k vs the kemper 9k. I would decide how much you want to spend, what are the must haves and put that on the table when you get a quote....See MoreKompy? Kraftmaid vs. Medallion colors?
Comments (17)Hi Charlikin, Was a great appt. I've been working with this great family from another state away. I carry a line that they wanted and it's worked out well. Cashew is close to natural, but not so 'bare' looking, if that makes sense. It's a nice color. Cashew is definitely more yellowy/pink than sesame. Wheat is closer to natural. And I agree with neverdunn....the sesame is gray and dull. I'm not a huge fan of it, standard or burnished. Burnished or Frosted (glazed) finishes in Medallion are 18% for Designer Series and 14% for Designer Gold series. Finally, here are the pictures that I promised to post. They are clickable thumbnails. KM Toffee - Med. Hazelnut Small samples: MED Harvest Bronze CHERRY (left) - MED Hazelnut Burnished KM Toffee - Med Chestnut (big doors) KM Toffee - Med Chestnut KM Toffee - MED Chestnut - Hazelnut -Harvest Bronze Cherry (small sample) KM Toffee - MED Chestnut - Hazelnut - MED Chestnut Frost - Med Harvest Bronze Cherry (small sample) The last two are against my Medallion Alder display in Hazelnut Burnished. You can see what a difference the hazelnut is on the maple compared to the alder. Maple is very yellow, alder not so much. It was hard to get photos without a lot of glare and not using a flash. The best ones were the ones that I layed out on the floor and took from above. Hope this helps!!! KOMP...See MoreWhat Is A Decent Cabinet Line And Where Did You Purchase?
Comments (55)My daughters kitchen is about ten years old and it looks great, she has Candlelight Cabinets. When I did my kitchen remodel two years ago I went to a distributor that sold them. The kitchen designer was excellent and every vendor that worked on my kitchen commented on how nice the cabinets are. My contractor said it was the first time he had every cabinet come out of the box fully square and the paint finish was perfect. Two years later, they look the same as when they were installed, I highly recommend them....See MoreMedallion Silverline vs KM Vantage vs Shiloh
Comments (5)Compare construction details. Are the corner braces plastic or wood, or are there twin I-beams? I would want Blumotion full extension soft-close drawer glides. Is the back panel 1/2” thick or cheaper thin back with a 1/2” hanging rail? Are the drawer boxes Birch or Maple (Maple looks better but costs much more)? Are shelves 3/4” solid wood, edge-banded plywood or particleboard/MDF? Are you getting furniture ends (false doors) for Exposed cabinet sides or simply flush finished sides? Personally prefer plywood and 3/4” thick sides for greater strength (perhaps overkill) but I would get two quotes per brand — one with plywood and one with particleboard — so you are getting apples to apples comparison and you can decide if upgrading to plywood is worth the cost. Plywood, with layers at angles, has structure; particleboard doesn’t. A lot is just personal preference and priorities. For a large (30” wide or greater) pantry, I definitely prefer 3/4” plywood sides; I would see if it is possible or feasible to get a few specific cabinets plywood and the rest particleboard. Some companies manufacture tall cabinets (pantries, refrigerator surrounds, oven cabinets, etc.) only with plywood. Main thing is using same exact specifications for valid comparison....See MoreUser
