can you redo that deck on top of the garage? if you did a more modern type of railing, it would look better

I'd also consider some paint or new garage doors (or, adding some windows and hardware to the doors)

maybe doing some wood siding on that portion right over the doors to break it up a bit.

or an arbor

darker doors

or all of the above!

this may require updating the other part of the home too, but it sure would look nice. (great landscaping you have)

Thanks Beth! Yes, we're going to need to redo the deck as well. The surface is leaking so we were planning to redo the concrete and maybe tile as well.

these are teak tiles. they look great, but require a bit of maintenance to keep them this color

putting some plants up there with trailing vines or flowers, would help soften that boxy look on top

this is a bit more spanish style, although the home really isn't all that spanish! There is really nothing spanish style about the house, especially w/those asphalt roof tiles. squaring off the porch arches and doing some heavy cedar posts would take care of that issue.

(those homes look exactly like the ones in my neighborhood!)

you could switch this home exterior over to a more updated feel if you did something w/those arches on the porch.
