What should I do with my hydrangea cutting?

I believe I started this guy in July as an experiment...the 4 large leaves are original, the rest is new growth that probably didn’t really take off until late August or September. It has mostly sat here on my windowsill, but occasionally on mild days I put it outside in the shade. I don’t know the name of my hydrangea variety, but I know it blooms on old wood and has blue to purple blooms based on my soil acidity.

What should I do for the winter?? I feel like I should have already moved it outside, would love direction so I don’t end up killing it. I live in Atlanta area z7b. Would love to eventually give this as a gift, but if planting in the ground and digging up later is the best option I can do that. Thanks for the tips!
