We put a French casement (with one huge screen across both windows) above our main sink and double hung windows above our prep sink. I never open the casement because I don't like the inside screen so we leave it off and we open the double hung windows instead. This is an unfortunate waste of a really expensive window. I find the inside screen much more noticeable than the outside ones. I was worried about the difficulty of opening the double hungs when reaching over a counter but so far so good after 4 years. I also like the idea of wiping any splatter off of glass rather than it hitting the screen.

This is a supplied air duct that is metal and is 10 inches in height. It ENDS in the shared wall to the dining room! The register in the kitchen in centered over the window which is over the sink base. I believe this is attic space above both rooms and I think I can read your mind already if you are thinking about relocating the duct? Don't know if DH is up to that project! I've thought about using 12 inch wide accent cabinets on left and right wall ending with a faux door in the corner. The reason being that dust is a huge problem and I don't want to leave top of cabinets bare to ceiling. The other option is to go with bead board with crown molding? But still leaves the issue with building a decorative framing around the duct and maybe using a trio type pendant lights that come mounted on a ceiling plate to mount underneath the duct framework. This stupid duct is an issue in the living room where it ends center of wall! What a joke! Thanks!

We didn't want a mullion right in the middle, so we went for a triple- actually the biggest window in the house. Without looking it up, I think it is 56" tall, and the three windows are about 22/26/22. The window sill will finish about 4" above the counter top. The next tallest window would have been right at the counter top, and it was too close to call in the planning stages. All of our windows are 8' to the top, and our ceilings are 9' 4". Another reason for the backsplash area behind the sink was related to electrical code. With a standard 33" sink, we would have had to fit outlets sideways under the window sill. Luckily, I found a 43" sink, so we were able to put the outlets where we wanted them.
