Roses that make stupid songs run through your head
Comments (26)Among the more inane things I do upon seeing certain roses, is to utter particular words or phrases -- some of which happen to be song lyrics. There are three of the roses linked below planted next to my compost bin. Every single time I visit that distant part of the garden and see her ever-present and always cheerful blooms, I spontaneously greet her by saying, "Well, coo coo ca-choo to you!" A somewhat wacky lyric fragment from a really terrific song . . . The gardener's compulsive utterances, however, probably qualify as being stupid. Comments (31)I love this thread. I was busy for a few days and wasn't able to catch up on all the threads. Have you all just slowly read through this thread? It brings tears to my eyes. Gardening is just wonderful... I love.. -the smell of the yard after a rain, -the hummingbirds and their dive bombing of each other, -early in the morning, walking through my garden with a camera in one hand and a notebook and pen in the other to jot down the names of the flowers I take pictures of. -seeing new perennials blooming for the first time and quickly taking a picture of them for my album -seeing the joy on people's faces when I divide perennials out of my flowerbed for them -weeding -picking fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden and, of course, having them for the first time in the season -showing others around the yard when they come to visit -love the feeling of accomplishment when a flowerbed is fully weeded or deadheaded -the peacefulness of living in the country and only hearing the birds singing in the trees and the occasional chatter of a squirrel that the dogs haven't scared away (yet!) -tilling the garden (in bare feet when the soil is warm) and watching all those tiny weeds disappear under the dirt and then looking at the vegetable garden rows all nice and clean after I am done. -In spring I enjoy the nice warm sun streaming in the windows (my cat does too!) Comments (88)Gotta love cougars in training : D. I have visions of a soft drink commercial running through my head, Gil. Anybody watching "Age of Love"? Sharon, did you not get any of the rain on Monday night? We had a lot of it with a really ugly looking storm. From about 10 PM to 2 or 3 AM. Green - yes, green clouds formed and they were swirling in every direction. It blew our barbecue off the deck! And it's a pretty big barbecue. Fortunately, not too much damage and we didn't get the hail. Even more fortunate is that it wasn't a tornado. Edmontonians still watch those skies pretty warily - 20 years later. Even after the rain, though, our lawn still feels a bit dry and crunchy so it wasn't enough rain. I actually had to put a fleece on tonight for a bit while I was outside. I just got a bit chilled. But it is a big relief from that hot, hot, humid stuff we've had over the past week. I think I can appreciate the heat just a bit better now that we've had some of this cooler air descend upon us. Comments (2)When there are so many consecutive days of 100+ heat a brief shower or even a day of rain is so nice. But the next day the humidity is so high that one can scarcely breathe when outdoors. Here in East Texas an air conditioner has become a necessity instead of a luxury. There were hot summers when I was growing up, but I do not remember hot spells lasting so long. Then we had one small electric fan that was used sparingly when the baby was napping. The windows all had screens and were not closed, day or night. My mother would lightly sprinkle every bed with her clothes sprinkling bottle just before bedtime. That was primitive AC....See MoreMars SC Zone 8b Mars
