Too late to move peppers?
Comments (2)Not sure what your weather has been like...I am in zone 8 also, but we have had a few warm days, but today's high will not reach 65 deg. Peppers like it warm/hot. I might be that they just haven't had enough warm days. I planted a few peppers amongst tomatoes last year and they did fine. I think...don't move...be patient. You might also trim, alot of shade leaves off of the tomatoes....See MoreIs It Too Late to Move Perennials?
Comments (3)Keep moving them. I will move perennials until the ground freezes. We're not talking large conifers here with winter transpiration issues, we're talking dormant or about to be dormant plants. tj...See MoreToo late to move and split/move hosta in zone 6b?
Comments (5)big city location.. zone is simply minimum winter temp ... so it doesnt tell us much in your area the rest of the year ... z6 is rather diverse ... as far as them living.. you can do it any time..the only downside might be how ugly they look the rest of the year.. if you hack them up .. moving a whole clump .. water it well for a week.. then just move it.. and drown it again ... and probably will look just fine the rest of the year .. hmmm.. that reminds me.. there was a brilliant post on this topic.. wonder if i can find it.. lol .. if you are cutting it up ... it depends how far you go with that process ... if in half.. or even quarters.. on a lagre plant ... probably take it well ... if you are going down to small pieces.. then your goal is nice clumps next year.. and you shouldnt really care about what they look like the rest of this year .... just do it .. if need be .. or wait.. really .. its your choice ken note the tape trick ... it really helps https://www.houzz.com/discussions/2000608/moving-a-large-fully-leafed-out-hosta-lots-o-pix...See MoreToo late to move perennials and shrubs in New England?
Comments (23)I'm still cutting blooms from my dahlias - and loving it. Not only because I love them, but because I dread when the frost hits and I have to dig them up. I really hate doing that - well, actually, I hate the dividing and storing, especially the dividing. But it's worth it. I actually sold some extras plants I had this spring, I had so many. PM2, I don't buy from Bluestone quite as much as I used to. Well, I don't buy as much from anywhere as I used to lol, but Bluestone kinda lost me when they stopped sending the three packs and kept the prices the same (or should I say, they raised prices!). I've ordered the last two years from Garden Crossings. They are similar to Bluestone in their plant sizes, and their prices are a few dollars cheaper. I've been happy with them. They had good reviews on Garden Watchdog so I gave them a shot and was happy. My Julia Child is in bloom, with a few more buds, as is a NOID white rose - the buds on the white rose might not bloom as they are small and it's getting cold. PM2 you might be able to find a good sale locally next month, on your mulch and soaker hoses. End-of-season, etc. I have pretty much everything planted. I've got that holly coming in by the end of this week, and a pot of phlox I got in spring that for some reason I keep forgetting to plant! I've also got a few hostas and some hydrangea divisions, but I think I'll try to overwinter them in the garage. They were planned for a bed that had some vole damage this year - lost two new hostas there - so I may hold off till spring and see if I can get rid of the voles. How? I don't know... prayer? Not sure what else I can really do lol. I bought a few canisters of MoleMax and I'm going to sprinkle it very heavily and hope that does something. And I'm sure I'll cave and buy some last-minute bulbs. Maybe I'll be out there in January again planting them lol! :) Dee...See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
