Sheer window curtains

I currently have light filtering cellular shades (in a gray linen color) in my toddler boy's room. Picture shown below has current room darkening curtains.

I am switching out the light filtering cellular shades to blackout cellular shades (same exact color/style); but now I want to put sheer window curtains over the blackout cellular shades.

What color would look best (for the sheer window curtains) in his bedroom?

Should they be solid or have a pattern?

Honestly I would just put the shades up in a boys room and forego the sheers. Sheers shout romance and elegance to me. If you must, I'd just hang a solid color that matches or blends in with the wall color.

I don't think there's a big enough difference to matter much. I'd probably pick the 1". If they're different rods, I'd probably pick the rod I like best, as far as looks.

Thank you for the suggestions everyone. We just order light filtering honeycomb shades, bottom-up top-down for 19 windows. Housegal200, thank you for the picture and idea. Once we are moved in I may add curtains that stack entirely on the side. I'm starting a new conversation next above curtains for a double slider. :)

My thoughts for hanging a sheer was - if it is blackout cellular shades - I'd want them all the way during the day to let in natural light - however, bedroom is in the front of the house/faces the street - and I was hoping the sheer would allow for a little more privacy.

Based on that - ?other recommendations?

I understand now. Then I'd still match or blend it with the wall color so it doesn't stand out. You can usually find sheers in various colors.
