Very random question!

My friends just became grandparents for the first time ( twins). The grandparents live here in a rural area and are about 3 hours away from the new babies in NYC. Gram and Gramps purchased infant car seats and will be bringing the babies home from the hospital. The new mom and dad do not have a car. None of this is an issue at all!

But , I cannot help but wonder , what do new moms/dads do if they do not have anyone who can drive them home? I thought that the hospital would have some type of transport set up ( for a fee, of course), but they tell me that is not the case. Obviously they need infant seats for transport, so that eliminates taxis, Uber, buses, etc. It was something that I had never thought of....but now I do !

My first dgd was born in Brooklyn, but the parents had a car. Are there any city dwellers out there who can answer this burning question?
