Lighting Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Backlit Mirrors and overall master bath lighting HELP

What is the general rule regarding other master bath lighting to complement back lit mirrors? We are putting in large rectangular backlit mirrors over each sink and one over my makeup area, can lights in the ceiling and a small chandelier over the tub. We don't need other vanity lighting do we? Overkill? (Shower and toilet are reversed here).

IMO a lot of backlit mirror and honestly not a good source of light for makeup inless all LEDs in daylight bulbs so 4000K and not more since then you will get a blue cast happening. I sure hate walking through the bathroom to get to the closet . You will still need some overhead lighting to balance the back lits and give good all over light .

Agree with Patricia. Backlit LED mirrors look cool, but practically speaking, they create lighting that's a bit unnatural looking. Put in framed mirrors instead with sconces on either side. You have plenty of room.

Hi there! I would suggest two options: 1. You could have one large mirror with the lights actually on the mirrors like the picture below. If you don't need a makeup area, you could do a hamper pull out in the middle of the cabinets Advantage to this option would be one seamless mirror with no breaks. 2. To have the three mirrors, but use light bars hung vertically on each side of the mirrors like below: Personally, I think breaking the mirrors up is a little more modern and that would be the option I choose. IMO two mirrors would look best. Have you considered round mirrors? They're quite charming for double sinks. This page has some great round mirror ideas. You have a gorgeous bathroom by the way, very charming and bright!

Yes, my original thought was a nearly continuous mirror but the glass folks actually said, “we sell glass for a living but in your case more mirror isn’t necessarily what is called for”. Lol. They were very nice about it. So that got me thinking a bit more about the function of the space. We need more storage and lighting.

Okay, so I'm not a professional or anything, so keep that in mind, in case I make an idiot of myself, lol. What do you think of matching framed mirrors over the sinks, and then a second set of matching framed mirrors (different than the first set, but coordinating with them) for the makeup area? The pattern along the wall, from left to right, would be A-B-B-A. My first thought would be visually heavier mirrors for "A," and visually lighter/softer mirrors for "B." I'd keep the light fixtures all the same, for continuity, either by using pendants or (like you mentioned) 3-lights on the short walls and 5- or 7-lights on the long wall, from the same line. Am I crazy??? lol Edited to add: So, I'm lying there, nursing the baby, and this voice inside (that sounds a lot like my husband) is telling me that my idea here is totally Classic ODD -- Unnecessarily complicating things. :-/ I think I'd pick 4 identical mirrors, and place 4 identical 3-light fixtures over them. Do you think you'd have weird strips of wall between some mirrors, with that arrangement?
