Typically in commercial impact rated IGU's we would use 6 mm tempered - 1/2" air space - 6 mm / .090 PVB / 6 mm. If you are not using IGU's just use 6 mm / .090 PVB / 6 mm.

If your window includes tempered I'd want that certified. If you say you don't care you may not get tempering.

Hi. So I've been dealing with Doorwin on Alibaba. I'm taking a chance with them as well. However, I was on Green Build Advisor Forum and there were 2 contractors that said they had good experiences with Doorwin. I ordered windows and doors from them. Hopefully they live up to the expectations those contractors expressed.

per the original post, what millworkman suggested makes perfect sense, what the door company suggested makes pretty much zero sense.

@Janna Harrison, if you don’t mind me asking, how did the shipping cost factoring in with the price of your windows? And how difficult was it for delivery?

Keeping in mind that none of the glass make-ups from the original post make any sense if they are intended for hurricane impact application.

I am finding overseas freight costs have tripled. We used to entertain bringing in European Glass from time to time and now when you include freight there is no savings over the domestic glass, much longer lead times and no true schedule of when you may receive the product. I have heard of containers stuck in ports with no timetable on when they may even be released for shipping.

@jayachiguru I did get the thermal break aluminum profile powder coated windows in black on both sides with German engineered hardware. The wooden door is the Natural red oak imported from America. And my assumption is that it can be painted because its wood.

My desinger purchaed her bi-fold from Doorwin and we saw it and its seems exactly like the big US names. She said theres a Newport Beach, CA large home builder that only uses Doorwin.

I do not but I did end up ordering through Doorwin and it was TERRIBLE!

We had so many problems with them. They lied to us over and over. 1. Their designers could not get our designs correct. We found so many mistakes which took months for them to get right. 2. They sent us the wrong handles (what we signed and agreed to) and refuse to make it right telling us we should be happy with what we got. We told them to compensate us $100 per handle since we now have to buy new ones (this is what they cost in the US) and they said they would only pay $25 per handle. 3. They shipped another persons order on our cargo (free to them) without telling us! We paid $7000 for freight and customs (this doesn’t include the actual purchase of the doors) and they said the other persons order didn’t add to our cost. Lies! Then they came back and admitted it in fact did and they would pay us $300 LOL! Their order was 10% if the total weight! Plus it is ILLEGAL to sneak product onto someone else’s cargo under their name. Customs will now have to take legal action against them.

This is a VERY unethical company! They make so many excuses as to why you should just be happy for what you got. They don’t realize in the US we expect to get what we paid for and not lied to. I am telling you spare youself and DO NOT use them. I am happy to explain more details if anyone wants to contact me.

Please let me know if the quality was the same as in the pics? Aside from your design issues was the quality good? And what about lead time? How long did you wait!

What pics? Been int he window and door business for 30 plus years and the next good thing I hear about Doorwin will the first, admittedly only heard a few things but none were any good.

Over half are goods are made in China. China makes goods based upon needs and price points. They produce cheap stuff but also excell in tech and quality. Your other comment is very much out of line and highlights your ignorance.

China excels in tech and quality? Your statement is ignorant. China copies technology they do not innovate and as far as quality is concerned, tell me about the quality of their sheet rock, baby toys, or the quality of their human rights.
