Can you over-dry water damaged hardwood?

My AC unit leaked dirty water under my hardwood flooring and, when i realized about 2 days later, I called a remediation company who set up dehumidifiers and an air scrubber...my insurance company said the machines need only run for about 3 to 4 days...the machines have been running for a week. Even though I asked the company to come and check, they haven't yet....i have no subfloors...just concrete slab under the floors which are kind of a thinner, small to medium tile parquet....i think they are operating under the assumption the floors will be replaced...in the event my insurer denies the claim to replace the floors due to a technicality with my Coop bylaws, is there a chance that my floors could be further ruined by overdrying??? thx

It will take a long time to dry water from under the parquet tile. I had a leak in kitchen. Water ran under a pantry cabinet, wall & under built in desk in next room. It took weeks to dry out. There was little to no ventilation. Had no subfloor, just porcelain tile on concrete in and around those areas. Don't be surprised if the parquet tiles begin to float loose. Use a moisture meter to check for dryness in the parquet tile. Home Depot or Lowes will have a meter.

Boxers is right...It might take months for the moisture to leave the wood and for the floor to regain what we call equilibrium. After the floor has stopped settling back down and moisture readings are constant across the entire floor, then you can consider resanding, if that will even be needed. I too recommend an evaluation by an expert after the floor has had sufficient time to normalize.

I had a similar situation with an icemaker line that damaged the hardwood in the kitchen and an adjacent hallway. The insurer paid for replacement of the entire downstairs because the hallway hardwood had been discontinued. The adjuster indicated that if it hadn't been discontinued, they might try to replace only a few boards. (I would have fought her if that was a serious proposal, but it wasn't.) I'll echo weissman's comment -- I sue insurers on claims like this for a living, and for a small claim it's not worth it. The insurer should have brought in fans/blowers immediately upon you reporting the claim. Sometimes the fans/blowers can work wonders with drying things out, esp. if you're on a raised foundation.

Yeah one finished room. (Of course still full of dust) They finished our bedroom yesterday. Still have to enventually come back and do the closet, but for now have moved on to the great room. camlan..Their doing the same thing here. Running the wood with no seams from room to room. I hope ours eventually "glow" right now they just glow of dust, but it still is looking nice. judydel. I like to buy rugs at TJ Max HomeGoods. Patty Cakes.. Oh no. The stairs is what inspired us to do this hardwood job. We just finished painting the stairs yesterday. The carpet that was on the stairs was old, dirty and ugly. It had to come up. My kids are teenagers, so hopefully safety wont be an issue. We'll see if they become too loud, etc., we can always eventually add a runner to them. beth..Your floors, rugs and house are beautiful.
