Hi, sorry I found out it’s actually a white mulberry and not a catalpa. He doesn’t know anything about gardnening hence I put ”pruned” in quotes. I thought he was just going to trim the leaves hanging lower than the rest when he said he’d help. I ran out for an errand and saw he cut off the branches too. I know he meant well; he said he was just trying to clear the branches close to the front porch but can’t help but get mad right now.

The pic should be of the overall tree, with the house in the background, in order for the pruned shape to be discerned.

A weeping mulberry shouldn’t look like an umbrella with a flat bottom. The branches should be left to weep to the ground. A picture of the whole tree would help prople make useful suggestions for rehabilitation. But please, not a bowl haircut.

There are some pretty bad pruning cuts showing in that photo as well. And they could open the tree up to disease and pest issues down the road, not to mention being visually disfiguring.

Step out to the street and take a picture. Then take one from each side, from further away. You can probably fix, it might take a year or so. People here can help with the damage. He didn't do any worse than "landscapers" here do with crepe myrtles when they commit crepe murder every spring.

Hi everyone, thanks for the response! That made me feel better knowing it can be fixed. I’ll try and take a photo from an angle that the others suggested. Here’s one I took that captures the whole tree (don’t know if the resolution is good because Houzz won’t allow me to upload higher res). Should I be contacting an arborist to look at it?

Your photo is sideways and will not enlarge. can you step farther back and take with something different so we can enlarge photo. Really can't see any details with this photo.

That is wrong location for a weeping mulberry. Once it's grown some larger, its branches could not weep to the ground, or even low, without blocking the house, drive and walk. Plus, there's another large tree nearby so there will eventually be spatial conflict. Relocate it while you still can.

BTW, if weeping trees are going to weep to the ground (as one suggested) the front yard, unless it is a large "estate-type" lawn, is not going to work. Along the side or back of the back yard would be a better place.

That’s entirely a question of personal taste imo. Obviously it shouldn't block paths or drives but whether it will ‘work’ placed in the front garden is up to the gardener. Not every yard has to look the same.

This one, of course, is in a poor position given its potential size And the proximity of the other tree.

Help! Mine actually is a catalpa tree and the same thing happened to mine! Some of the branches were cut to about a foot or so from the trunk. Some were just trimmed drastically. Will they come back? Will I get that weeping look back?
