Flower Bed Help!! (plant selection and placement)

Hello. We are hoping to get some help in redesigning the shrub/flower arrangement for our backyard flower beds. Our zip code is 84003 and we are right on the border of hardiness zones 6b/7a. The back of our home faces East and gets full sun.

Our home is only one year old and we have learned this first year that the back 1/2 of our yard is prone to intermittent flooding (hard soil and very high water table by a lake). We had some plants in the back 1/2 do just fine (purple-leaf sandcherry) and some others have pretty much died (common lilacs). The beds are all 7' wide and the entire space is 43' long down the sides and 76' long at the back.

The plants that will need to stay (and are visible in the pictures) are:

  • Three Summit Green Ash trees at the back corners and back middle of the flower beds
  • Two Pacific Sunset Maple trees on the sides of the beds
  • Eight Blue Arrow Junipers down the North side of the patio and adjacent to the beds in question (will likely do the same down the South side of the patio)

The available plants that can stay, be transplanted, or moved elsewhere are:

  • Six Purple-Leaf Sandcherry
  • Three-ish Common White Lilacs (three alive and one or two more just hanging on)
  • Two Black-Lace Elderberry
  • Five Little Henry Sweetspire Itea
  • One Limelight Hydrangea (still in a container from the nursery but available for planting)

Now onto the pictures:

And one picture of our front yard so you can get some idea of the rest of the lot:
