Ethan Allen, yay or nay on quality? Bernhardt?
Comments (4)My husband won't let me buy Ethan Allen furniture anymore. Our house looks like an EA showcase only because it is one of the only furniture stores in my small town. Twelve years ago I bought some pieces from the Legacy collection including the sleigh bed, which has held up great and still looks good. My son's bedroom furniture from EA kids is also wearing well. Two years ago bought a kitchen table and chairs from the Tango collection. I'm on my 3rd table, 1st one the base cracked, 2nd one the top did not match up where the leaf met the table. I have the black chairs from Tango - the finish is terrible and they look like @#@#, not durable at all. I've also had about 3 of them replaced - cracked legs and cracked seat base, the 3rd one I just had repaired today as a matter of fact. In May, I bought the dining room set from Modern Glamour collection. The veneer along the side of the table came unglued, probably due to the Western sun it's exposed to, but that's no excuse. I'm having that repaired today so I'll see how it holds up. I'm extremely disappointed in the table since I really like it, but I feel I've been rippied off. The buffet from that collection also had to be repaired since the veneer was cracked when it arrived. So my vote is nay. Good luck....See MoreAny Recent Experience With Ethan Allen Sofas?
Comments (30)I am happy to share my experience with Ethan Allen Sleeper sofas hoping it will help others. We bought a Paramount Sleeper Sofa in 2013. In 2017 we noticed that the front pad that supports the cushions was bulging out (see photo). We contacted Ethan Allen and they said that because the problem was not in the frame, it was out of warranty. I looked at other pieces of furniture in our home and I noticed that the EA sofa, unlike other items, had a very “squishable” pad to support the cushions. We told EA that the sofa is seldom used (at most 20 times per year) and that my husband an I are not heavy and felt that there must be a problem with the design or construction. The final decision came in an email, from which I copy directly: “In conjunction with our warranty department, Jenn and I have carefully reviewed each of your questions and concluded that the sofa is up to our manufacturing standards.” We were told that our only option was to buy a replacement pad and pay a technician to replace it. When the pad arrived it was tightly rolled in a box (see photo). How is this soft pad supposed to support the weight of someone sitting on it? As I wrote EA, the sleeper and frame are “great”, unless one sits on the sofa. Not a good thing... for a sofa. And certainly not good “manufacturing standards” for Ethan Allen....See MoreOT?: local Ethan Allen *and* Stickley *both* closing
Comments (14)I too am amazed at how most of the better furniture stores have either radically changed or just gone away. Visited ( for the first time in years) the local Henredon, Drexel-Heritage store and was aghast at the huge, ugly furniture and accessories . Of course, there were exceptions, but OMG! Monster carvings, ornate tapestries, *gaudy silk with glittery baubles. The former Homestead House has a new(er) owner with same quality as HH, ONLY if one were to judge quality by the prices. Same hideous stuff as above. I walked out swooning. Seems can find little beauty outside of Baker, etc.showrooms. EA looks pretty nice, still, but we've all heard how their quality has gone waaay down. I don't mean to offend, but I see very few, or no examples of this gaudy stuff on any of the photos posted here, nor is it in any of the home mags, or decor books (such as C. Faudree sp.?)so many of us admire, so I feel safe here. So who ARE the people that drive this taste? And who has the humongous rooms for the giant sectionals, chairs with arms the size of large tree trunks, etc.? My home is over 4500 sq ft.with nice sized rooms, 10 ft. ceilings, and would not hold this stuff. I just don't get it! Oops! Did I just hijack this thread? I hope not :>/ It is a question that has been bugging me for sometime now, and seemed a good place to respond. Please forgive if I should have posted separately. *btw: not all silk and glitter is gaudy :>O...See MoreEthan Allen Retreat - Do or Don't?
Comments (16)Thank you all for your help. :) Chris, your sofa is beautiful! And Fori, I go through the same thing at dinner, only my son (who is nine!) likes to use his shirt...while the napkin is right in front of him. He's a work in progress! Carolina Kitchen, we like the Borini gray; it's kind of a herringbone look, and the weave is pretty tight, which I was thinking/hoping would resist snags. I'm not sure if they'll give me a sample, but I'll ask. Good idea! Chris, did you buy the extra five year warranty?...See Morefunctionthenlook
