Comments (3)Depends on what you want your tree to look like steve. Do you want a single trunk or a multi trunk? It may also make it more difficult to locate the graft line in the future when your tree is larger and more full. I like single trunk trees personally so my vote is remove anything near the graft line. But like I said it’s up to you. Evan...See MoreFukushu kumquats on flying dragon
Comments (11)bklyn I do plant peaches and apples in pure topsoiless clay areas of my yard. They have done very well. My apples are on mm11 rootstock. The apples are also almost heat and drought proof. All 4 of my Poncirus trifoliata are in pure hardpan clay. They are deep green. The PT trees are on the north side of my 3 story house and shaded from the east by a 2 foot pear tree. The tree in the video was planted in heavy clay loom yard dirt 50% and home made compost 50%, not pure clay. All my trees are on Seville sour, Flying dragon, Poncirus Trifoliata on Seville sour, US897, or own roots. Those rootstock do very well in hard wet clay soils. I will try a bunch of seeds this fall in clay soil and see what it does. I do have 1 NZL grafted to an NZL seedling. Steve...See MoreFukushu kumquat on Flying Dragon
Comments (4)I've noticed that FD can be pretty vigorous under the right conditions myself. I'll be grafting ~30 seedlings that are about 5 years old this spring. Looking forward to getting those evil thorns off!...See Moreponcirusguy6b452xx
