Mixing modern bathroom with traditional/eclectic older hom
Comments (1)I think it can be done. Would you be willing to tone down the modern/contemporary feel of the bathroom if you could still use IKEA cabs? For some ideas, just google Making Ikea cabinets look vintage. Adding the right "wooden" elements can immediately change the feel of the bathroom: If you use a piece of reclaimed lumber as your counter, that would look modern and eclectic at the same time [Modern Powder Room design[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/modern-powder-room-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_713~s_2105) by Toronto Interior Designer Jodie Rosen Design You could also pick floor tile that looks like wide wood planks, both modern yet historical at the same time. Comments (19)Love the color and style of your new WE sofa. We have a mix of styles in our LR, and have used accessories, etc. to bridge certain gaps that have presented themselves. However, I would not use that height chair combo with your sofa. Also, painting and/or shortening the legs of the chairs, don't really seem to be great options either. My leather sofa in the LR has sort squared legs, but it came that way. I don't think I would alter a brand new sofa in order to make it work with CL chairs. You've just purchased an awesome sofa, would it be possible to wait until you come across chairs that would complement your sofa as opposed to trying to make do with the wrong height chairs? Not sure if you've already purchased these, but in the event you have, could they be purposed in a reading nook in the master BR, or somewhere else in your house? I know how it feels when you really want to make something work, but I think these chairs miss the mark with your new sofa. Scale is definitely an important factor when planning/decorating a room. IMHO, unfortunately, these chairs don't work from either a style or scale standpoint....See MoreMixing Modern Lighting with Traditional?
Comments (15)Thank you for all of your responses! Your photos are all great, I appreciate that you've posted them. Most of the time the juxtaposition works, I think, because you've all managed to find some common element in the modern and traditional, whether it be colour or lines. Yet there are others who've managed to marry completely different looks and the feelings the rooms evoke are completely different. There is something very special and personal about that. One poster admires modern art in traditional rooms, and I find myself in that camp as well. Upon entering such a room, it takes me completely by surprise - but then, a new synthesis is reached. I understand one poster's comment about respecting the house's period. We've always been conscious about doing that, while at the same time making it work for us. Thanks again!...See MoreHelp - Traditional or Modern Tudor Exterior? Pics of Elevations
Comments (20)Decorate for the house you actually have, not the fantasy house that you don’t have. Notice I didn’t say “Design”. Design for this was a year ago, and didn’t involve anything Tudor. Design is Form. The bones. Your Form is set, and the basic Form is not Tudor. It does have a lot of nice Modern simplicity going for it. Simplicity that would be best served by a single cladding material, however that might be achieved. And a redo of the copper roof to achieve a more modern and simple direction. It’s ornateness is a jarring element against the rather more severeness of the body. Severity in this case is a good style direction. Bringing on late in the game decoration that isn’t at all part of the design form will look even more unnatural and overblown. Like Mario Buatta set loose in Phillip Johnson’s Glass House. Dont do this.... To This.....See MoreBeth H. :
