Mixing Modern Lighting with Traditional?
Comments (15)Thank you for all of your responses! Your photos are all great, I appreciate that you've posted them. Most of the time the juxtaposition works, I think, because you've all managed to find some common element in the modern and traditional, whether it be colour or lines. Yet there are others who've managed to marry completely different looks and the feelings the rooms evoke are completely different. There is something very special and personal about that. One poster admires modern art in traditional rooms, and I find myself in that camp as well. Upon entering such a room, it takes me completely by surprise - but then, a new synthesis is reached. I understand one poster's comment about respecting the house's period. We've always been conscious about doing that, while at the same time making it work for us. Thanks again!...See MoreMixing modern with traditional

Comments (13)What a lovely house! I would definitely not paint that brick. The current looks is classic and cute and requires no maintenance. I'm not an architecture expert, so I'm not certain if these are appropriate to the style of the house, but here are some ideas for a new light over the front door. Rejuvenation Wildwood Sconce Rejuvenation Pacifica Sconce Rejuvenation Columbia Sconce Hopefully someone with more skills than I could suggest some landscaping changes to wake up the exterior. Right now you have mostly lawn and two little shrubs. Adding flowers and some interest to the landscape will really help add some pizazz. I would do away with the storm door and let your front door be more visible. If you need a storm door, paint it the same color as the front door. I would go for a simple and classic style railing around the porch. The house is cute on its own and has simple architectural interest. To me that suggests that a cute, classic, simple railing would work best. Hope you'll share when you finish. It's a really cute little home!...See MoreMixing modern with traditional in the dining room
