Coat closet & other places to store coats
Comments (12)The transition seasons are hardest, aren't they? But I would say either store only TWO coats (a lightish one for whichever season you have, and a heavier one for that season) in that closet. At the very least, I would say that wool dress coats should go in the bedrooms; they're probably not used daily. And when you want them (dress-up days), you'll be willing to go get them, probably. (And if you're not, then maybe you don't really need to own them--I do not ever buy my kids, or me, dress coats.) And rain coats can go in the closets, because if you need them, you'll REALLY need them, and you'll be willing to go there to get them. And you probably don't use them *that* often. Or, start storing ALL coats in the bedrooms. At the very least, perhaps you can train yourself to travel all the way into your bedroom before you take your coat off; then it's just the 2 boys. (I bought a Lands End Squall, bcs it's light AND heavy.)...See MoreMy Coat Rack (photo)
Comments (5)CANNOT get the other photo to load, but it shows the coat rack "loaded"! It holds two or three denim jackets, a red cap and my purse. Didn't realize until I looked at the photo that it also contains another one of my projects. The handprints behind the rack are three of my DGKs and they're framed in the top part of an old stove! Figured if I was gonna display them in the kitchen that kind of frame would be appropraite! LOL...See MoreTwo antler chandeliers in a home too much of a good thing?
Comments (35)Thanks so much everyone for the great responses. bobo - I wish I had pictures! The great room is chock full of items we're storing due to the remodel, so that won't help, but the existing chandy is over a very nice mahogany pool table. The layout of the front entry is loosely based on my inspiration photo below (which is more country, I know, but it's what I love). Our entry will be wider, and will have double front doors almost exactly like the pic posted below except they will also have a 10' wide custom transom above the doors and sidelights, and will be stained a deep, warm brown. These doors are very rustic, but fit the exterior of the house perfectly. I plan on using a hutch, grandfather clock, etc., in the space (and maybe even the stacked oval boxes, if I can get away with it). The floors will either be wood as in the pic or similar to the stone in our kitchen, also shown below. The arch between the entry and great room may have pillars and a beam in the same stain as the front door. Uxorial - I really like your chandelier and love your log home! Auntjen - your antler chandelier is obviously very special, since your father made it for you. I'd love to see it. kitchendetective - Arte de Mexico has a store very close by and they do have wonderful items. Their furniture is beautiful although perhaps a bit more rustic than the style I'm looking for (I'm more of a country farm table and hutch person), I did notice they had great lighting choices. It's been awhile so I'll have to visit the store again. littledog and okmoreh - you said exactly what I meant to say! I want my home to be decorated in the style my dh and I find appealing - elegant rustic meets early American country (he's the rustic and I'm the country!) but don't necessarily want to decorate in objects that labeled a definitive style. It's easy to cross the line and get "campy" with rustic decorating - which can be fun but not the look I'm aiming for :) I do find antler chandeliers done right to be beautiful pieces of sculpture, so hopefully I'm on the right track! To those of you who commented on Premier's statement - I wasn't offended in the slightest as reading his/her comments on other posts over the last few months caused me to immediately disregard his/her post on this thread! Comments (43)Ohhhhh I'm just loving all of your pics!! Auntjen, what a beautiful!! chandelier. It is soooo perfect in your room - just lovin' the new paint color & the way you moved your rug to the LR. Joann - what a great idea about the candleholder. I love your big horns over your FP. Furletcity - your bathroom is beautiful - I love the rustic beams in there. Koidom - your horns are beautiful & look great with the feathers! I have been using pheasant feathers for years since DH takes a trip every year to SD. Littledog - beautiful den - green is my fave & your drapes are beautiful. I like the head mounts, too. Angeliaintx - nice rack!! LOL Jant - that pic reminds me so of my MIL's. She love blue/white import & has tons in her den - all painted white with lots of woodwork & big fp. She has a big ole deer head above the FP with blue/white import vases on each side. Blue damask club chairs - toile - Chinese rug - a total mix but it works! Thank you all for your input so much!! I will get some this week. I'm thinking I may use some on my Turkey day table with some natural cuttings - bought some mixed nuts for some lanterns and some burlap for the runner. We'll see - alot of times I am not able to reproduce what's in my head!! It's funny how receiving something like antlers is getting me excited about decorating my table for Thanksgiving. Let's see, someone asked about the print behind the chair - it's Leon Danchin, french - 1800s & I just love his work!! You can buy copies at art.com but I collect the # lithographs or engravings (I look for the plate marks, not sure what it is, thou). If anyone runs across them - please let me know!! Below is a google image search of Leon Danchin. Smiles:) Here is a link that might be useful: danchin google images...See MoreBumblebeez SC Zone 7
