Porch Design Ideas for Makeover/Curb Appeal?
Comments (4)Clearing the bottom branches of the tree would reveal the home. I suggest doing that first and then taking another look at it. You see the tree blocks any curb appeal. Its' just a big tree hiding the house. Don't get me wrong, if you it can be trimed up from the bottom to reveal the home, then you'd start to have curb appeal. Comments (5)Thanks so much, this is hugely helpful. That glass awning shared is amazing. I will see about talking to a local awning company about it to start. The current awning is actually burgundy, not that it makes it much better :). Definitely agree on the landscaping too and have considered starting with yanking that bush out the blocks the front door, even if we wait on the rest until spring. I never thought about the downspout color being different, and now it stands out like crazy. We’ll definitely have that painted to match the brick. Would you leave the other paint as is? On the door, I also like the idea of having the sides be the same color. What color would you paint it? I wouldn’t mind replacing the door but the side lights are matching to the glass - does that matter? There is also a storm door if that makes a difference. The windows are definitely dated but haven’t been the highest on my priority list to change out - as you can imagine, several things inside look like 1995 too. Thanks so much!...See MoreNeed Curb Appeal Ideas!
Comments (17)Thank you for the feedback, Patricia! I love your idea of the potted plans and chair on the right side which would bring some life to that open side of the porch if we kept it as is and just cleaned it up. Here is a better view from the street. The "circular" driveway is misshapen and way too big, so that will be getting redone as well (probably dark gray pavers) so the front yard doesn't look like a parking lot. We plan to scale it back and away from the front steps. And, all that landscaping will be redone, too....See MoreHow to add curb appeal and make closed in front porch less awkward?
Comments (21)@Elaine Doremus Resumes Written Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately we were not able to find any images of the home from the past. I was hoping some folks on Houzz might be able to tell what style it originally was or at least give some good direction on how to we can restore it. For example I think the roof line may have originally gone straight back, instead of the second pitched section of the roof you can see on the left side. I apologize - I know I am not using the correct terminology! The home also has cheap vinyl replacement windows, so I would like to one day replace them. Maybe the anderson craftsman or farmhouse line? I wonder if we would change the scale of the windows at all......See More- 3 years ago
