Cul-de-sac landscaping help ( and curb appeal ideas)

We live in a cul-de-sac and our front yard is pie shaped, which I'm finding hard to landscape. We live in a very hot climate and need plants that are not only heat tolerant, but also deer resistant as we live close to a corridor where the deer travel. We are redoing the roof, gutters and siding and were thinking about adding a Gabel over our front entrance although it would need posts, and we already have so many posts because of the carport, so we're thinking that would look funny. I'm looking for ideas for perennial plants/ placement and ideas to increase curb appeal ( without adding turf). Thanks
