We finally got our built-ins installed, and they will be painted in a few days. My plan had been to paint the shelves and cabinets the same color as our trim (BM Chantilly Lace), and the back the same color as the walls (BM Palladian Blue). I'm now second guessing myself and looking for either reassurance or other suggestions. I have heard that it looks nice to paint the back a darker or contrasting color, and while it's not my style to do something really different (like pink, red, yellow,) I do wonder about a darker shade of Palladian Blue (Catalina Blue?) or a darker blue/green color. I also wonder about just sticking with all white. My style tends toward transitional/traditional/coastal, and I do wonder if the accent color on bookshelves is a trend, when I'm someone who prefers something that will stand the test of time.
