What color should I make my garage door?

Hello!

We are in the process of having this dark navy siding put on our house. The brick will eventually be painted a light grey (like the chimney). The front door is going to be replaced eventually with a more modern door that I'd like to paint a pop of color. I'd also like to make the garage door wooden but that isn't in the budget yet. Would you keep it white as it is or paint it to match the grey? Thank you!

I would match your siding blue or a dark navy blue.

Or a dark grey would also look nice. I would go dark grey on this.

I would use a brown color that is the same as the brown on the lower portion of your home. Need to see a photo of the front door to decide on door color. Best wishes!

Like the pergola over the garage door idea. If built to be sturdy enough to walk on it, then it could serve as a fire escape route should the need ever arise -- certainly hope it never does. You might also consider painting your step rails and side supports the same color as your siding unless you're planning to have a wood finish door and/or a rustic porch and post addition over the entry at a later date, in which case you'd want those additions to have the same wood finish. Garage door same color as siding so it recedes from view as much as possible. Front door a bright white like your window trim - or a creamy white like your house trim (fascia) will make your front door pop (like it should). Or, you could paint your front door a lime green or other bold (orange or yellow) not-dark color like below. As mentioned you have mainly glass so the green/color border is really diminished. Landscaping would really help your home. Right now all the emphasis is on your driveway and garage door. Post in the landscaping sub-forum for a landscape plan and plant help.

Maybe it's a question of what you're working with? Like, this house has dark wood doors, but the wood is echoed in other architectural elements, like the cedar shakes over the garage and the gable brackets. Your house is mostly light siding and lighter, tan-hued stone, so maybe that's why the walnut is striking us as too dark. Anyway, from your response it sounds like you've already made up your mind that the dark wood tone is the way to go, and with the deep color and the distance, I'm not sure the graining is going to be obvious from the street anyway. I'd stick with the all-over dark tone if that's your preference, and avoid the two-tone option of doing the raised panels in white, since it seems like that might turn out busier than the dark wood tone you're going for.

I kind of like the blue door in cd's last photo. Definitely not white since it pulls way too much focus. A garage door with windows across the top would be nice and add some interest.

Gray to match the new brick color - or a slightly darker gray for the garage door.

Are you planning to replace the front door? It would update your home tremendously to have the front door work with your home's new updated look rather than that sunburst door.

Thanks everyone and thank you so much for the photos cd7733! I think I like the grey best for the garage door and yes maybe a shade of grey slightly darker. I’d love to get a light wood garage door but it’s not in the budget yet. Also yes the door is going to be replaced but not until next spring unfortunately. We want to add a different porch and walkway so waiting until then. I’d like a modern four with horizontal windows down the front and painted something bright. Not sure maybe a reddish? Thanks again!!
