OT: POTD: A thank you to God
Comments (16)What a beautiful pic Lucy. Yes we had some damage from the storm but even more today from wind. Pots and large plants blown over for some reason that shouldn't have been and Lucy Lou stomped down my whole patch of obedient plants just when they were coming into peak bloom but its ok. There are still a few standing. Had a plumeria turn wierd and die in the middle and fall over. We stopped at Martha's Bloomers in Navasota on the way home from dropping Morgan off and I got a couple of pretty plants. Here are a couple of pics. What a difference about an hours drive makes. I included some of some fields down one of the backroads we took. How green compared to where we live but my grass and most plants are really happy with the recent rain. I got the pretty blue flowering butterfly pea vine and a huge peacock ginger....See MoreOT: Santa Rosa/Sonoma Area Fires --
Comments (86)It has been very very hazy here for the past week, and they say that it is actually smoke from the Southern CA fires! We are 400 miles away. It is supposed to be dry and windy here for the next few days, and we have not had any rain for 3-4 weeks. Much of the entire area around SF Bay is under a "fire watch". Berkeley (which last burned in the 1920s - my grandmother used to tell me about it) has asked everyone who lives in the wooded hills (just like the Oakland hills which burned a few years ago - steep, narrow windy roads) to park their cars in garages of otherwise off the streets, so that fire equipment can use the streets if necessary. They are serious - it is scary. Jackie...See MoreFire in Northern California - I hope that everyone is safe
Comments (27)Terriks, I’m so glad your mother safely evacuated. Watching the news right now and it’s horrifying. My daughter is in college in southern CA but far far south from any active fires. However, she texted me a couple of hours ago that her roommate’s family was evacuated from their home near the Woolsey Fire. They live near Thousand Oaks. I just was googling info about the fire and found a list of homes that have burned and it specifically mentions that one home is on fire on the street my daughter’s roommate lives! No specific address..just says the name of her street, which does not have many homes. I just texted my daughter but she has not seen her roommate all afternoon and thinks her roommate left to be with her parents. Her other roommate’s sister goes to Pepperdine, which has also been evacuated. After what happened earlier this week, it is just awful they have another tragedy to deal with....See MoreOT California fires
Comments (58)agmss, your Paradise friends got out, and that's what's the most important. I realize that some belongings can never be replaced, like that art collection mentioned above, or a home that someone has worked on for years, or articles that have untold sentimental value, but if a person doesn't make it out, those items mean nothing. It seems that the fires are contained or mostly out, with the recent rains, but hundreds of people are still unaccounted for or missing, and some may never be found or identified. My stepson and his family do live in California, but they are near Laguna Beach and so, thankfully, they are safe and unaffected, but it's still worrisome. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the path or area of these fires and hopefully the rain won't cause a lot of additional problems, although I understand it is hampering search operations.
