I’m going to guess your Echeveria is not in the best of mixes, so first thing I would do is repot into a better one. You can get a little bag of pumice or perlite and cactus soil, and mix a 1:1 ratio. Be sure to clean off as much of the old soil off the roots before putting up into the new mix.

I can’t really help when it comes to giving advice on whether you should put your Echeveria into a bigger pot because I can‘t see what’s goin on. Can you post a pic?

Now when it comes to light it may be a good idea to get a little grow light because Echeveria are really difficult to keep looking nice when grown inside without supplemental light. Especially when winter comes. Many succulents go dormant over the winter, but Echeveria keep growing. They don’t grow as fast as they do during the warmer months, but they do continue to put on growth during the winter.

It sounds like your biggest problem will be not enough light. So watch out for early stages of etiolation. Etiolation is when the plant has weak growth due to being grown in low light. Etiolation starts usually with the new center growth. The new growth won’t be as compact, the leaves will flatten out, the plant will start growing towards the light, and the Black Prince will loose it’s dark color.

Most of us living in climate with cold winters, use lights for our succulents. They really help, so it is important to get it. Make sure you acclimatize your plant to good light.

Repotting is next important thing you can do for your plant. Use pot with drainage holes.

The reason why the succulent came out real easy is because when we first buy them from places like Lowe’s or Home Depot, among other places, the plants are in a peaty mix. Peat is not great for succulents because it will either hold on to moisture when watered regularly. Then when left to dry the peat becomes hydrophobic and will repel water. It’ll become rock hard when dry also.

I had to repot a few succulents today. Two Echeveria were in a peaty mix and you can see how one Echeveria is in a soggy mess, while the other is in a dried out block.

That’s why I suggested to get all the old soil off the roots before you repot into your amended cactus mix. Many bagged cactus mixes on their own don’t drain fast enough, have peat, mixing half with perlite and or pumice really helps fix this problem.

I have found peat doesn’t promote really nice roots either because when it becomes rock hard it‘ll choke the poor little roots.

When it comes to watering keep in mind soil does not dry out as quickly when inside a home.

Lastly, your little Echeveria isn’t a Black Prince. I thought it could be one of the Echeveria I just bought and repotted.

But I don’t think so anymore. Doesn’t really matter because the growing tips given above still applies🙂.

Echeveria called Black prince is quite variable hybrid. In general, leaves are thin and bit pointy, especially when young plant. It is supposed to be dark, lavender-brown color. But it could become very green if it doesn't get enough sunlight.

Black Prince pups well, and blooms are beautiful red color. Here is color comparison (green = not enough sunlight) and blooms:

Your plant does not fit that description, Kara may be correct with ID she suggested.

Your plant should be repotted into fast draining mix, and pot with drainage hole. Try to get harden-up peat off the rootball. If it stays as-is, roots will not be able to get any water (or just very little). If it is very hard, try soaking it in tepid water, and let air dry after. Introduce slowly to good sunlight to avoid sunburn - eventually, 6hrs/day would be a minimum.

If you look closely the Echeveria in question has little tiny hairs on the leafs’ margin, Black Prince doesn’t have that.

The more I look at it the more I think it may be ‘Scorpio’.

I agree with Kara - Black Prince has smooth leaves, and they are also thinner.
