it should be really easy to flip that fixture over. it would only take a minute, and you can flip it back if you don't like it. you don't even need to shut off the power if you're careful. but if you're nervous about anything electrical, get somebody who's handy to help. I don't see a problem with the placement of the light receptacle box. maybe it's a touch low? if you ever need to move it up, it's possible (will involve cutting into the drywall).

Yep, looks like it will work, lose the fluorescent socket and ballast and install the Edison socket. You'll probably have to steal the threaded tube from the old for the new socket.

If you use the storm door for a screen in the summer get a phantom one so you can actually see your front door.IMO you have a lot of stuff going on on the front of the house so I would probably do avery simple light maybe even a bit modern looking in black. Kind of like this but not those horrible Edison bulbs

Are these actual brass or color-plated metal? I have a faucet and soap dispenser that are same company but slightly different tones. When I posted questions, experts told me that brass is a "living" metal and its tone alters over time. If they are real brass, you can have them buffed to lighten tone, unless they have a sealant on them. Otherwise, you can definitely have these painted with car-quality paints found at any Auto supply store if you can find the right color... But who to ask to do this for you, I am not certain. It takes a special touch so it doesn't get all drippy. I would start by checking in your area for an interior decorator.
