(I say thankfully, because if they were the only dogs doing it, I would have to question my decision to own them instead of breeds with better habits!) I read that dogs eat manure (of various kinds) because their noses are so much better than ours that they can smell the food content in spite of the more obvious odor of the droppings. But it isn't healthy for them, so I do my best to make sure they can't reach the sandbox, and to clean up after them in the yard daily with my pooper scooper. If they can't find it, they can't eat it. I really don't have any trouble with gas from my dogs though. I think gas issues are often related to diet, and sometimes you have to find the food your animals can digest the easiest. There are many different approaches you can research and if your dog is eating what agrees with them, the gas should decline. Felix, try brushing the dog's teeth to help with the breath issues. It is good for them, and will keep those pearly whites strong longer. I have to take Maks in soon to get dental surgery done. He never lost his baby canine teeth and they are causing a problem with the permanent ones. Two sets of teeth in the space where only one should be, and the food gets jammed between them, which is going to cause decay. *sigh* Who'd-a thunk of such a thing? Instead, I would focus on bringing in interest art with some of the red you love in it - it certainly is not about matching, but if you find art or wall decor that speaks to you and contains the color, then you are set. What about your window treatments - perhaps a stripe or print that has an interesting pattern and all your colors. You could hang a single large piece of art over the bed that will enliven the focal area. Consider lamps, perhaps handpainted ceramic of some kind, that can bring in some interest. An area rug under the bed could work, too. A vase of interesting greenery and florals can add a spark. The other thing that you might consider is having mirrors cut for the tops of the nightstands, with polished edges. It will bounce light and break up some of the dark furniture feel. If the hardware on the furniture is changeable, consider that as another way to add new life to the dark furniture....See More"Serene" bedrooms--yawn
Comments (57)We eat in our MBR 5 days a week . . . breakfast, that is (lol). DH likes to start his office hours early for his patients who'd like to get in before they head to work. So, every morning, M-F, for the past 32 years of our marriage we get up at 5:15. I make us a hot breakfast (and pack him a lunch) and bring it back on trays so that we can eat together and chat a bit while he finishes getting ready. Some mornings after DH leaves for his clinic, I sit on our bed and fold clothes while I watch GMA, as we have a tv in our armoire. I also sit in there and iron, as I love the view of our mountain out the window wall one way, and of my little walled-in garden the other. I've always loved to decorate and it's been my own personal philosophy that every room in my home should be as comfortable and welcoming as I can possibly make it. And every one of them is . . . to us, at least. Lynn . This post was edited by LynninNM on Sat, Jan 24, 15 at 11:33...See MoreThe Not So Serene Bedroom
Comments (33)I'm reviving this thread since I've bought bedding that I thought would help to integrate the rug into the whole scheme. nosoccermom mentioned white bedding and I looked at ivory quilts, and I was a little bored until I came across this cream quilt with embroiderer flowers and I knew that was it. Please ignore the fact that the quilt needs to be ironed and that the tag is sticking out. I just wanted to try it out to see if it would work out. I plan to pull the rug partially under the bed also. Do the pillows fit into the overall scheme? Any other thoughts or suggestions? Thank you for everyone's help which I hope has pointed me in the right direction. I wish the quilt had been wider on the sides but I did want this one. The quilt is double thickness so the other side can also be used which is quilted also, but without the flowers. I have drapes that have cream and soft blue stripes which I'll probably hang up instead of these flimsy gold ones. Now I'll have to find something yellow to go with the headboard (until the day when I finally fling it out the French door)....See Moreannefortunetroutman
