Custom quartz countertop

I finally found a cabinet for a bar nook I've, the material I want, the price and they are local. However countertop is extra since it is not their business.

I looked in HD for a countertop for the cabinet (46 x 26) and the price was hard to beat with installation (800) but of course, HD has a requirement of 1500 USD to spend to get a custom counter top, however I hear many times that people are able to get the counter top for the size they want in HD so wondering what is the trick (in person?).

What other options I've? I already asked some countertop companies for their price but also checking in here for alternatives/ideas.

If you just need a remnant piece, the best thing to do is to shop around at your local fabricators' scrap yards to find what you want and then book the fabrication with the fabricator that has the scrap you want. You'll save a lot of money doing it that way.

If you're an extreme price shopper and not too fussy about color and bowl, stuff a couple hundred bucks in your pocket and head on over to a local fabricator, preferably just before lunchtime. They've got vanity tops that they've screw up and are willing to unload for cheap.

Your house is lovely in a charming, old-fashioned type of way that appeals to many of us. I'm stealing a phrase from someone else (can't remember whom), but your house says "Ahhh" rather than "Wow!" That's exactly the feel I want from my house. I do not think you should feel pressure to move up to a bigger, more expensive house . . . just because you can /will be able to in the future. We are building a house that's much smaller than we could afford to build, and we're planning to fill it with luxury items . . . in moderation. I think you should proceed with caution because none of us knows what may happen in the coming years, and what you today call a "forever home" may NEED to be sold for any number of reasons: A work move, surprise twins or the need to take in a family member's child, a freeway coming through. None of us ever think these things will happen to us -- until they happen to us. We have to be realistic. I'd say go ahead and improve your small house with lovely things that will please you and enhance your life, but do keep it period appropriate, and don't over-do excessively for the neighborhood.

People use granite and quartz for backsplashes pretty frequently -- I think they're getting a thick slab for those too. I don't know how it's handled, but I'm sure that a good contractor who's done it before will know.

I've gotten hair dye on my Cambria White Cliff (solid white) a few times and used some Clorox Cleaner+Bleach. Spray on, let sit for a 5 minutes, wipe and rinse with water. You might want to check the manufacturer website or call their customer support and have them suggest a product.

I am a fabricator. The various "levels" reflect the variable cost of the inclusions and also the demand for particular colors. The "quartz surface" slabs (more accurately termed engineered stone) are processed the same way regardless of the final look. "Level 2" is a reasonable base for a bid as it gives the customer a decent idea of the actual cost. Quoting based on Level 1 or "Builder" grades sets the customer up for a price increase when the actual slab selection is done.

Yeah, I ended up looking for a local fab, they provide the size I want and install and the price dropped a lot by doing it this way. Thanks for the suggestions!
