How do you feel about chaise lounges?

LOVE chaise Lounges!!!! hubs suggested sectional so we can curl up by windows. not sure how that would go but dying for any advice.

I really love them too. So is it an atrium/garden room/ tea room kinda look for you?

Well the type of chaise lounge that I am thinking of will fit a couple of folks on it. you and kiddos or maybe hubby.

uh oh, forgot to ask. How many people will be using the room daily if all of you are in it; and budget?

our house is all food color paint 😂 Kitchen is bagel, front room and hallway creamy mushroom, bathroom svelte sage, and boy‘s room steamed milk. This room is right off the kitchen so trim is going to be cherry. as far as other colors- love earth tones but love the random “pops of color.” i love patterns and textures. I do not like flowers but I am growing basil rosemary mint and barely some parsley. I have two Short bookcases For either side of the doors. I do have a burgundy leather loveseat and recliner if I can salvage it.

Don’t have lamps or end tables anymore but loveseat, recliner, and chairs if needed. We’re open to new as well!

Well that is yummy. Will you need heat in the room in the winter? I know, what is with all the questions.

I am working on the 3D rendition. May I have a picture of the wall opposite the kitchen window and door? I just can see if there is a door or wall there and if there is a wall may I have the measurement of the wall starting at the edge of the window to the kitchen wall?

Wall opposite kitchen window. I would rather face windows but hubs liked sectional with chaise facing French doors. I love that rug- the greens!!!! Love it!

Our living room with tv is in the finished basement-hubs is fine! hahaha the room with the blocks will be our dining room! big changes over here!

Can you post a floor layout with measurements and noting where the doors and windows are.

That would be helpful in determining a furniture layout.

Also, as far as the flooring let's see if we can help you narrow that down as far as a look. Do you want this floor to compliment what is on the other side of the door into the house? If so, post photos of that flooring.

I looked in your Ideabooks but don't see any ideas that would convey into this space. Do you have any feel of what you would want it to look like?

Sectional with chaise often limits number of seating and layout possibilities. Guest usually will gravitate towards a chair before heading to a sofa as people like to have their own personal space and arms on the chair so something else to consider if you think this will be an area where you will do some entertaining.

I honestly am looking for comfort in this room. replacing the chairs we have is fine, since they don’t have arms- I wouldn’t mind! we have space in basement, a large table- I’m not concerned for guests- the ones well have will deal with our comfy couch!

That's neutral so are you thinking maybe a LVP for the floor? Have you done any looking yet for flooring?

Flooring guy is coming today. It’ll be some type of LVP. The trim will be the same dark cherry.

Another consideration is doing two sofas that form a "L." With a large upholstered ottoman as the coffee table.

Whatever you decide on, make sure to blue tape the furniture sizes on the floor before you purchase to make sure the pieces fit in the room. As often what looks good on paper, doesn't fit in the room as thought.

I noticed that you have white trim in your livingroom. Is there a reason you feel that you need to carry the cherry into the new familyroom? Maybe at least decide on paint or stain after you pick out your flooring as having cherry trim could really limit your flooring selection compared to painting it instead. And with your white window and doors, white trim would look nice.

This is a general visual idea of what I'm talking about as far as an "L" with two sofas. You can put a table with a lamp between the 2. And yours would be up against the walls not floating in the room like this visual. I think this would give your hubs room to lay out on one sofa and also allow you to be able to look out at the yard and still give you plenty of seating for entertaining.

And as far as window treatment. You may want to look into solar shades at 10% it will cut the blinding light but you will retain your view!

I am trying to put what you are telling MaryBeth to do in the rendition for her. MaryBeth wants this room to be focused more on her because her husband has his room downstairs. She was saying that she wants to be able to look out the windows, husband wants to look out of the French doors, she likes a chaise lounge to relax on, to read, listen to her music and watch her child play. So I am trying to put the rendition together with your suggestions. The chaise would be separate as seen in an earlier picture of a job I did for someone else. MaryBeth likes the area rug so I was going to put that into her rendition. The rendition is to scale so the furniture in it fits as seen. Your idea to blue tape is always a great suggestion.

Mae- I was looking at your latest rendition (and since you didn't put a separate chaise in it I had dismissed that was an idea still on the table) and based on the latest rendition it appears that if a person sits in the chaise part with their feet up and even sitting on the other section of the sofa they will be looking at the kitchen wall and not out at the french doors or windows unless they turn their head. Am I wrong? And that is why I suggested 2 sofa's with an ottoman coffee table which will allow for her feet to be put upon and even her son can use it to play on without worrying about damaging a wood or glass top. A sofa would allow more seating where the chaise would be and would offer a straight view through the french doors. And if her husband wants to look out the french door, he can lay down on the sofa that faces the kitchen wall where in a sectional/chaise combo it makes it harder to do unless he is going to put his head in her lap? Neither solves the looking out the window issue without turning your head unless something is put against the kitchen wall. Have you tried any configuration by doing that? Just wanted to offer her some other ideas as so many people are sold on these chaise/sofa combos and really don't think it through until they have them in their home and find out their short comings. And I have many customers who have been happy with them, too, but after we had a discussion on them regarding the pro's and cons. Look forward to see what your next rendition is.

Okay I hope I got it right. This is what I think Ted was trying to suggest.

In this rendition you will find:

1. Two couches against the wall (red/burgandy, could be the one you already have)
2. One corner coffee table between the two couches. Again could be one you already have. BTW what you have is actually very nice, beautiful in fact.
3. One cushioned ottoman. This one turns over to have four serving trays and storage inside of it. They are nice.
4. One table lamp in the coffee table between the two couches.
5. One chaise lounge that fits two people and measures 5'7"1/2 long x 3'3" wide.
6. One McNally Round Ball chair with cushions
7. One round ottoman in front of the round chair
8. One floor lamp for reading behind the round chair
9. 3 round side tables. Could use the ones you already have.
10. One child sized bean bag chair
11. One waterfall floor lamp over the chaise lounge
12. One Urban storage unit to the left of the kitchen door. (door has been removed)
13. Two small shelves on either side of the French doors.
14. One square area rug. The one you have is very pretty.
15. Two pieces of art on the wall on either side of the French doors (with geometric designs)

Again, everything is to realistic scale and based on the measurements I was given. The furniture in this rendition can be purchased on line.
