Bosch vs. Frigidaire Induction Smackdown
Comments (10)I have a Thermador induction cooktop, made by BSH who also make the Bosch. The Thermador has timers on each hob which I use all the time. It gives me peace of mind to set the timer and leave it, knowing that if I forget, the cooktop will turn off. I use the timers for everything, from boiling an egg to making stock, melting chocolate or simmering a stock or stew, anything that isn't done in the few minutes I'm standing by the cooktop. I've posted my bridging two hobs several times on this forum, pointing out that if you want to span two hobs, go ahead. The only danger is if you have both hobs at high power and run them for some time. I think you could damage the ceramic between the two where there's no sensor to shut the cooktop down in case of overheating. We use a cast iron griddle across two hobs to make pancakes. The cooktop is set to medium power and we have it on for about 15 minutes. Works perfectly. Sorry but I know nothing about the Bosch or Frigidaire units you're considering, just reporting on the timers and ability to bridge on my cooktop. Comments (27)On the E'lux units I'm familiar with, one turns on a hob by pushing on an icon at the hob control group. At that point the hob is ready to take direction, and one either pushes the up arrow or down arrow. If up, one gets Power Boost (unless its hob pair is already above the threshold of allowing Power Boost, in which case one gets the highest allowable number). If down, one gets level 1 minimum hob output. It takes only a few seconds going down from P or up from 1 to get to the desired setting. For most cooking, one would tend to set the level high to start, if only to overcome the thermal mass of the pan, and then turn it down progressively as it heats up. The time to setting compared with that for designs that require one to select a hob for a single setting control to accept the power setting is not likely to be much different. In the particular case of incipient boil-overs, which are easy to have occur with induction, individual hob controls are in my view more intuitive to react to in order to lower the power quickly. kas...See More30" induction cooktop advice: Frigidaire, GE Profile, or Bosch 500?
Comments (24)I saw this on Reddit. Can't vouch for its accuracy though. "Specs (2x7, 1x6 and 1x10 zones, in inches) seems to put it as the Frigidaire Gallery 30'' induction cooktop equivalent, which is a nice cooktop for the price. I have the Frigidaire Gallery one at home, and I'm pleased with the performance. My parents bought the SAMFÄLLD, and it's essentially the same thing, but I do think that it's better looking that my Frigidaire one. Behind the SAMFÄLLD manual, you can see it written "Gallery 36'' induction cooktop", so logically, at this price and specs, SÄRDRAG would be "Gallery 30'' induction cooktop". SÄRKLASSIG would be the regular Frigidaire one with smaller zones (2x6, 1x7 and 1x10)."...See Morerdecember6
