John Boos is the largest American Company making butcher block. Paula Deen and other celebrity chefs just put their name on mostly generic products made in China. You almost always get better value buying direct from a company that makes things as opposed to a marketing company. Paula Deen Signature Pie Board is made in random Asian factories, the current model being made in Thailand.

I have one of the ones linked below (mine is the P2; 12" X 15"--$58). I'd gotten it years ago (~12-13 years ago) at an upscale crafts fair, it still looks terrific--and believe me, it gets used! A year or so ago, the rubber feet on the bottom finally started to deteriorate. Since I hadn't seen David's stuff at the crafts fair in years, I googled him/his "company", and then sent an email. I was able to purchase new feet (got an extra set as as back-ups) and voila, good as new. I have a zillion cutting boards Some are beautiful craft cutting boards done by local artisans - i have trouble using these - but it has little rubber feet on the bottom to prevent scratching. I have a number of plastic "jelly" style cutting boards - probably won't buy anymore of these - in time, the mold in the little cracks... I have 2 Corian boards that I received as wedding gifts - they are still holding up and I toss into the DW. They have little silicon feet that sometimes wash off - so I have extras from Corian and the hardware store. Some of the nicest cutting boards are made by Boos - they have a website. I recently bought my new island with a Boos top - it is beautiful. OK - I can't cut on it yet and use a cutting board on top of it even though it is designed to to use as a cutting board. For my wood boards - I use a food safe mineral oil and I also have Boos board cream which I haven't used on my new island yet. And Cambria sent me a board to match my ktichen. I haven't used that one - i think it will make a nice cheese board as a bit hard on the knives. Here is a shot of where most are stored - my giant ones don't quite fit. I use a plastic one for onions and put it in the dishwasher. On my last built in cutting board, the onion juices permeated it and would flavor apples when I cut them. I jsut could not remove the onion flavor. Now I use a large maple board for everything else. I do scrub it down well and I oil it with mineral oil I buy at the drugstore. If you buy cutting board oil at the cook stores, you pay through the nose for the same stuff.
