Comments (5)>>"...because we all have to watch out that any government group just does not step in and take over...">> No GOVERNMENT group is trying to do this. It is unscrupulous individuals who take advantage of outright fraud or use specific legal loopholes to deprive an elderly person of their assets. The link below lists several cases where fraud and financial elder abuse was successfully prosecuted BY those government groups on behalf of victimized seniors. My MIL could easily have been one of these people. She is naive, financially unsophisticated, and suffers from MCI (Mild Cognitive Decline). A sympathetic, earnest, friendly con artist could snowball her in the proverbial blink of an eye. And frankly - 90% of her widowed friends are just as vulnerable. At least 50% of them have no children or lack family living close by. One of her friends has a $4M estate and absolutely no one in the US to help her make decisions. Her nearest relative lives in Scotland! Here is a link that might be useful: Archive: California Real Estate Fraud Report...See MoreHow do I connect to gardenweb instead of Houzz?
Comments (9)I think dadoes is on to something. Are you sure you're logged into Houzz/Gardenweb in your Linux Firefox? BTW... (this may not interest you but... just in case) I sync too but probably the other direction. I sync Linux bookmarks etc. to Windows since Linux is my main OS. I also sync to my bedroom computer. I don't use Firefox Sync though (not saying there's anything wrong with it), I just copy the relevant files. They're in your active profile folder which is easily found by going through "Help"->"Troubleshooting Information". (Profile Directory -> Open Directory) "Bookmarks" are stored in "places.sqlite" "Cookies" are stored in "cookies.sqlite" To sync/copy "Passwords" you need two files: "key4.db" and "logins.json" (they're stored in logins.json but they're encrypted so Firefox needs the associated key4.db to use them) (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data) I usually sync all the profile files, at least the first time. That way I get any other changes I've made. (using about:config, userchrome.css, etc.) ---------------------------------------- I also stay logged in. Secure? Enough for me. Convenient? Yes. Edited to add: To confirm, I just logged out then came back to this thread where I clicked the gardenweb link in the OP. I was redirected to houzz. To get back on gardenweb, I had to log back in. I suspect the techs would love, love, love to convert gardenweb pages to houzz so they would only have to make changes one place instead of two. (houzz pages are styled differently so when they make a tweak to the houzz version, they have to turn around and make the same change, a bit differently, to the gardenweb page) Personally, I prefer gardenweb so I'd rather they convert houzz pages to gardenweb pages but... that's not going to happen. :)...See MoreOh no, "Featured Answer" again?? Ugh!
Comments (12)Accepted Answer, Best Answer, Most Upvoted, something similar might occasionally be okay on a few forums. (Computer Help, Tomato Pests and Diseases, etc.) I wouldn't think it would be useful on a discussion forum such as The Kitchen Table. Like Raven, I try to only use a gardenweb URL too, so personally, I haven't seen it. Occasionally, a bell notification will take me to a houzz URL, but I haven't seen it there either. Just a wild guess but maybe whether or not "Featured Answer" is shown depends on which domain the OP was on when they started the discussion? And maybe the bell notification link points to whichever domain the the person that did the reply/like was on when they caused the notification?...See More- 5 years ago
