What's Still Blooming This Week

Here are some photos from the last three days. There are spots of color here and there.

August Fire ffo - Not many buds, but it's a welcome face this time of year.

Blue Jay Tapestry with yet another rebloom scape

Soli Deo Gloria - Now that I've adjusted to the edges NOT being white, I'm liking this one better and better with each bloom. The longer it's in the sun, the more ruffly the petals become and then the sepals recurve, which I like.

Seedling Karelia x Palace Garden Beauty is reblooming for the first time in its nine years here.

Pink Lemonade Party is still reblooming

Last two blooms on The Blues Project

Seedling August Frost x Winter's Angel still has two or three more buds.

Zuzu's Treasure x Dearest Valentine will conclude its rebloom later this week.

You do still have quite a few blooming. Mine are just sparse rebloomers now! The Karelia seedling still is a favorite. Pink Lemonade Party is so pretty with that clear color. The Zuzu’s Treasure seedling has performed well, hasn’t it?

That Karelia seedling is so nice, such an edge! You’ve got to be so happy you got rebloom on Zuzu’s seedling. I’m a fan of the the August Frost seedling.

Plantmaven: a few hours and 2 cans of krylon and you can have a rainbarrel almost any color under the sun. I also use (for clients) a local company that paints their barrels slightly differently. They use a krylon primer but then paint the barrel - exactly matching the house and they make nifty custom risers for the barrels too. This works well for my clients in historic districts or those with HOA's. I wish I could get a nicer riser for mine. Even just the right size cement without mish-mashing a bunch of odd pieces. If they all looked flat and plain I could simply paint them out purple to match! Schoolhouse, there is some way you are supposed to crank (or whatever) the hinges on these gates to tighten them, however I have no tool or knowledge of how to do that (I guess I should google it!!!). The posts stayed up well, it's just the silly hardware.

Sept 30..... in Franklin I have pansies which were cut back 6 weeks ago and are now revived back from spring looking happy and blooming strong again. wax and fiberous begonias, kale, shrimp plant, calendula, snaps, petunias, bachelor buttons, malva, coleus, sweet annie, false queen anne lace, lavendar, sunflowers, rudbeckia, zinnias, asters, phyostegia, asters whats still is alive with lots of foliage is: avacadoe plants, key lime tree, scented geraniums,Banana tree, orange tree, taragon, lettuce, onions, parsley, cucmbers(dont look great-too manyducks trampling onthem)The maples are turning bright red What I have growing in West Tremont, Maine is well, we have a garden center so everything is looking pretty good very diverse in plant species and still much is lush and blooming. In my pataote beds 20X20 feet The pataotes still have not died back much so I am still waiting for that harvest to occur. My garlic is blooming nicely! The lavetera did fabulous this year and is still bloomin it little heads off along the pet zoo animal fence. There is also lots of sunflowers blooming happily!

Make that New Hampshire soil.....LOL....but even Joe Biden confuses the two states. You are right, Brad, mine has more color. But it was blooming after the cooler nights of late August, which helps intensify colors. It is one of those daylilies that you have to grow and see in person to truly appreciate it's beauty. It's easily passed by in search of flashier, more brightly colored ones but when you truly step back and study it, it has flawless beauty. And it is a terrific plant, healthy and hardy. I set pods on it this year so it will be interesting to see what I get.

Isabelle Rose is so pretty! I added that one last year, but it has not bloomed yet. That's a gorgeous photo of Shores of Time. I still consider it one of the best pinks around. My Bluegrass Shadows was not splotchy at all the first two years, but my first two blooms this week were ultra splotchy for some reason. Kara Louise is the one Hansen red that's never been splotchy for me - maybe being at the corner of my shed protects it from the dew. Yours looks a different shade of red from mine. I can understand why you added it if your daughter's name is Kara. The clump of Butterfly Moon looks fabulous. I got that one from Nancy last year as a healthy, robust plant, but it did not fare well in the potting soil I used to pot it. I put it in the ground last fall, and it still looks wimpy. No scapes yet, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Wonderful post. Like A Gee Six even appeals to me. If I had room, I'd offer to take it. Debra

Kate and Sherry - The Zuzu'a Treasure seedling has rebloomed on all of its four fans, so I'm pretty happy with it. Karelia x Palace Garden Beauty is oretty, but it's a problem chlid that only opens well when night temps are above 73 degrees. It won't get registered or given away because of that. Thank goodness its offspring don't share that problem. I'm very happy with the three seedlings I've gotten from it, and I need to plant some more of its seeds next year. The August Frost seedling, with its 43 buds, is one of my top favorites.

What a lot of beauties still blooming. My favorites are Soli Deo Gloria and Seedling Karelia x Palace Garden Beauty. I don't know, but I am sure some of us never have to worry about temps lower than 73 except at the very beginning of the season, and even them, it isn't often. It wouldn't be the only one that didn't open well either.

Kay - I'm glad you like Karelia x PGB. When it first bloomed and in subsequent years I thought it might get registered. But it never got more 13 buds and had the opening problem even when I moved it to an area where it got early morning sun. The great thing is that its babies open better and have more buds. Here are the babies:

My favorite of these is Zuzu's Treasure x Dearest Valentine. Very pretty design, great color. (Karelia x PGB) x This Longing #1 and #2 are both very interesting. What great eyes.

August Fire is so pretty, I bet it looks even prettier in a clump. I don't have a single daylily with August in the name (it's my BD month )) Your SDG looks so fancy! Love that pink color on Pink Lemonade Party - nice name )) August Frost seedling is so beautiful, but your this seedling - (Karelia x PGB) x This Longing #1 - is gorgeous! I love that thick border.

Brad - Thanks for your comments on the seedlings. I know you have a soft spot for the lavenders.

Nat - Happy Birthday to you in August! August Fire would be great in a clump. I only wish I had one. It's been in a pot for three years, and doesn't like it there. Two years ago it went from two fans to one. Now it's two, but it only put a scape up on one of the fans. It's in a pot with Smug which has multiplied to five fans now. (Karelia X PGB) x This Longing #1 does have a great edge. I really like the patterned eye too. I think the flower is very unique looking,I and will probably register it even if doesn't have the bud count that meets my goal.

Soli deo Gloria really does get better with each bloom, there are such nuances of color to it, just makes me keep looking at it. Zuzu's Treasure seedling is lovely, and how great to get that much rebloom from it. I like the Kariella x Pgb seedling, but the seedling from that are really wonderful!
