I've shown ours in your previous post. This forum is slow during the summer. Try posting on the Decorating forum. I suspect more response will be forthcoming there.

I'm hoping someone has bought this cooktop, model CE901, or a similar F&P cooktop. I've scoured the web and can't find any reviews of it. My problem is that I have a Dacor electric cooktop, 4 years old, that's cracked in two places. We've finally determined that my granite fabricator made the cutout about 1/8 inch too small on one corner, causing the cooktop to torque, which made it crack. It cracked just after the warranty expired, so it's our problem (Dacor was not helpful, but that's another story.) The only cooktop I've found that will fit into our cutout is the F&P CE901. But I fear buying it because I can't find any reviews, nor can I find anyone who owns one. It's an older model, so I'm hoping someone on this forum, please, bought one, and can tell me something about it. I'm down to two burners on the Dacor, and I love to cook, so this is torture. I can't put another Dacor in the cutout, or it will crack as well. And my fabricator is out of business, so he's no help. I don't want my kitchen torn up either. Just out with the old and in with a new cooktop, I'm hoping. Is there any reason I shouldn't buy a Fisher & Paykel electric cooktop? It's the only model they make, so perhaps few people have bought it?? Help, please.

Cooks Illustrated just did a testing of a number of them. Issues were accuracy, consistency, cooking surface, cleanup and overall performance. The winner was the Broilking Professional Griddle with Backsplash #PCG-10 for about $100. Their best buy, much less expensive, but with a smaller cooking surface, was West Bend Cool-Touch Nonstick Griddle #76220 for about $50. Here is a link that might be useful: Cooks Illustrated Review of Electric Griddles

Wow, I'm 60, and I never realized it was so much trouble, and so dangerous to boil water on the range--been doing it that way all my life. A question to Maura--I understand your concern about your home, of course, but don't you think it would be more important to teach your daughter to be responsible, rather than giving her the tools to be more IRresponsible? She's got a long life ahead of her. Here's a tip--tell her to set the oven timer (or microwave one, if the oven is in use) for about 5 minutes when she puts a pot of water on to boil. Effective, you already have an oven timer, it solves the problem, and you're giving her a tool she can use the rest of her life. I often use my timers for things totally un-kitchen-related--often have 2 of them going at once. When I put in a load of wash, I set it for 30 minutes so I don't forget to put it in the dryer if I've gotten involved in something and am not watching the clock.
