Drywall Replacement After Demo

Just finished removing a one-piece fiberglass tub/shower combo. The lip was fastened to the same stud as the overlapping drywall. Now there is nothing holding the drywall sheet. Is it best to:(1) remove drywall back to inside of the next stud and add a sister stud to attach replacement drywall, (2) remove back to the center of the next stud and attach replacement drywall, or (3) remove back some arbitrary distance and attach a banding strip to attach the replacement drywall? The drywall replacement will run from floor to ceiling. What is the best overall way to accomplish? I should also add on one wall I have free and clear access. On the other wall the stud will be behind the toilet.
Thanks!
