Escape from the pandemic! with rose pictures
It was a crazy spring with no time to post in the roses forum. As a mom of two elementary school-aged children (I work full time as well), everything went sideways in mid March. Now that we are into the hot and lazier days of summer, I have some time to share some pics of my roses! Hope you enjoy. Will continue in the comments.

Barock (climber, Tantau). This was a bareroot that was 2nd grade from Palatine ($10!). Planted in November and is 4 foot tall now with beautiful blooms.

We built a new addition to the house which meant a new garden from scratch. It looks better in person than the pictures. It broke my heart to see a group with so much common interest being torn apart from misunderstandings and words said in haste and heat. I'm glad to have you back Malorena, BenT, Farmerduck, Ingrid and everyone else. Jin, I don't think you could ever say a mean thing if you tried! I really care for everyone on this site and hope we've learned to breath before responding and try and find the correct words with which to disagree and question. It's a very difficult thing and I'm as bad as anyone in the heat of the moment. I've often thought this would be a most useful skill to teach in school. We actually did a bit in graduate school, but I think learning it from childhood would help us all, both as individuals and nations comprised of them. Comments (91)Astrokath, I have never read a Cormac McCarthy book that I've enjoyed. That one sounds a bit different than his usual fare but, I bet it doesn't have a happy ending. I was about to pick up where I left off in my Hungarian bank robber book when the library informed me that another ebook I had reserved months ago was available, The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. 3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoKathy- Sidonie is a VERY pretty rose ; the buds start out the most intense silky pink of any rose, like a 1950's lipstick, with a beautiful set of head feathers. Sometimes the open blooms are cartoon flower shaped like Portland from Glendora, sometimes goblet, but many open up in unusual lopsided shapes , so quaint an old rose with a button eye.
It is said to be salmon pink, but I view Sidonie closer to a solid medium pink, fading slightly as the petals drop. Perfume is very strong at times , smells like a floral laundry soap to me.
Super healthy growth here in Pacific Northwest zone 5, not a speck of disease even though it sits in the shade most of the day. That aspect alone makes it outstanding for a no spray garden.

s Spring flush the number of roses came in fast and generously heavy. The second flush is starting , buds appear not as numerous, time will tell.
In it's second year the short bush was low to the ground and spread out " floppy " but i trimmed the low outside branches, now the middle ones are growing straight up, about two and a half feet tall. Doesn't seem too mind pruning at all. Mine has lots of little pokey thorns.
Sidonie has really captured my affection , definitely a keeper
