Wide single entry door - not pivot - impractical?

We have a 60" by 80" wide opening for our front door. We are considering a single steel and glass entry door, we can either make a wide 5' one or a 40" plus two 10" sidelights.

I really like the look of a single wide door, but this won't be a pivot door (this company doesn't make those and the ones I see are above our price point). I know it is unusual to have a 5' door. Why is that so unusual? Would it be hard to operate? Is that a bad idea?

Sorry about the stupid question, this is our first major remodeling project.
