Sweet Lilian...not so sweet right now!
Comments (27)Frank, she's already a beauty, and she's not fully open! Just wait until all the buds open! As I said, it was one of my favorites! Very prolific bloomer... although, all my attempts at pollinating failed. I'll catch it next bloom cycle. Sweet Lilian also proved to be very photogenic! I took the most photos of this particular variety. Viagrow... hahaha! So, what happens if the stem is erect for more than 4 hours? Should you consult a horticulturist? LOL! Larissa, in today's world, you sort of have to help your kids develop a thick skin so they're ready for whatever life throws at them. We're the type of parents that never shielded our kids from the uglier side of life... we were always very open, encouraging them to question the world around them, and to discuss things they weren't sure about. Life is tough... kids need to develop good coping skills! One of our favorite lines was, and still is: Life is full of choices... for every choice there is a consequence... think hard before making your choices! When our kids were teens, our house was the favorite hangout... there were always other kids at our house. They would all come over after school and hang out, play video games, listen to music... my fridge got a ton of mileage! I think we fed the neighborhood! You should hear some of the stories from parties at our house! Our motto was: Don't fall asleep before we do! Oh, the jokes we played on people! Ahh... great memories! Hilarious memories! We never had a lot of money, but we did have a lot of fun! Our kids have some awesome memories to take with them through life... that much is certain!...See MoreDoll House Kits and Memories
Comments (32)ttodd, I wanted to share my experiences with you. My mom and her husband (only grandfather my kids knew) built each child a dollhouse. And let me tell you these were not your ordinary dollhouses. They started out as a kit, and as in real life, there were lots of upgrades. He absolutely loved woking on them. There is copper flashing, shaker roofs, gutters, etc. My mom decorated the interiors, and they were incredible. Each girl got one (different years), and then they made my son a horse barn. Everything was electrified (I highly recommend that for the lights!) Here is the only downside. They are huge. They are a pain to store when they get older. My kids are 23,21,and 19. They are not in homes of their own yet, so we are storing them, but they will take them eventually. They are on rolling platforms, so the kids could push them up against a wall, and then roll them out when they wanted to play. I have quite a love/hate relationship with the dollhouses. Of course the love far outweighs the hate. My mom passed away about 11 years ago, so it is really special to see what she did. Oh, and both of the girls had a box of Christmas decorations (including lights) to put up on the outside of the house as well as the inside. Also had a Spring collection of things too, to decorate with flowers, etc. btw, while we are getting the house ready to be sold, they have all been removed to a friend's house. I think my house looks bigger now without them in there!!!...See MoreDoes anyone have a Mirage 'Sweet Memories' wood kitchen floor?

Comments (77)I’ve been living with my mirage Nordic white floors since February. They scratch, especially in the kitchen and there is an occasional dent but I have to get down on the floor to see them. The other areas of the house have far fewer dents/scratches so, clearly, we live harder in the kitchen. Even in the kitchen, the only time I notice the scratches is when I’m cleaning up spills. Our last house had 200 year-Old heart pine floors with a satin finish poly and they dented/scratched. Ironically, the least scratches we’ve ever had on wood was a new white oak floor that we used a penetrating oil stain finish (no poly or other top coat) and it still looks perfect two years later. And dirt and dust don’t show on it as there is zero sheen. So it’s the finish that scratches but I realize not everyone wants a wood floor without a top coat (and in the house where we used the oil stain on wood, the floor in the kitchen is limestone). I would imagine less sheen equals fewer scratches. But on my Nordic white maple floors, it’s really not noticeable. Of course, I have marble counters too so, clearly, imperfections don’t bother me! Hope this helps....See Morekatiebee4
