Where, oh where, IS everyone?
Comments (9)No.. sad to say I haven't driven the 25 miles to go get any of my "old" fish. I have just the one that I couldn't find last fall. Might be cheaper to go to the local pond store and buy a couple of new ones. Many plants are still in pots, but I have this week off so I've been extremely busy hacking out the over-whelming bittersweet, sumac, grape vines, raspberry bushes and assorted weeds to make room for the plants. The weather has been so beautiful this week. We have the pool open (last year it was not open) so it is so much fun to work on the weeds, jump in the pool to cool off, then get back to work. LOVE IT!!!! Then I make a martini and go sit by the pond and feed my one lonely fish. I can get so lost in time just sitting there. It's not big, but it provides whatever my soul needs to re-charge. Only found one tick today and that was still mobile, so I brushed it off and got out of the area. I'll check carefully tonight to make sure none have anchored themselves to my cushy body!!! hahahaha they have plenty of space to do that. I will hate to see vacation come to an end on Monday. I am "practicing for retirement"!!!!...See MoreWhere is everyone?
Comments (13)I met my sister yesterday to get our toes done. I can't twist my body anymore to get a good aim at 'em. And when they're painted I can't tell as easily how fast the nails have grown. the girl there just couldn't believe how long they were. Mine grow fast - so do my fingernails - and my hair.! Guess I'll have to go there every 2 months or so whether I think it's time or not... We had a good time. her dh drove her and then ran errands while we were in there. Then we went across the road to have dinner. Nice new place (to me; they've eaten there a number of times). I got an Italian sandwich w/ side of pasta salad. It was getting late so I had to watch so it didn't get too dark for me. by the time I ate my pasta salad I decided I'd better leave, so got the sandwich to go. I should have left there 20-30 minutes sooner. was getter darker than I like out there to be driving. but I've got food for about 2 days from it. had a small corner of it after I got home and it was very good. i'm going to go down to W shortly to get the dog some cookies. ran out earlier. i'm out of the small ones that she gets after going outside to do her business... I could probably use some cookies too - will get mine from the subway counter - they usually have raspberry cookies there. went to my 3rd eye doctor on Friday. He showed me my eyeballs on the computer screen... the right looked like a blood moon. The left - total white 'full moon'. He said that the cataract causes the light to scatter and all it shows is white. he also told me that my iris is stuck to my pupil. Oh dear. that sounds messy... He told me that with the new technology in glasses, some people can adjust for a cataract with those glasses instead of surgery. But I wasn't one of those people... darn! I see the surgeon this Wednesday, so will ask him about the iris/pupil mess. Neither the retinal doc nor the surgeon mentioned that to me. glad you are doing ok Shades. you're lucky you aren't sore everywhere!...See MoreWhere does everyone Buy jars in bulk
Comments (10)I hit the jackpot on Craig's List several years ago. Someone was cleaning out an old dilapidated house and advertised canning jars. Pints, Quarts, Half's. 5, 10, 25 cents each. I sent them a note and told them I'd take all they had no matter how many there were. When they said there were more at the house, I offered to meet them there and they were afraid I'd get hurt so they declined that. They put a bunch in wood crates, fruit boxes, any other cardboard they could find. I think I ended up with over 1000 total for about $145. I gave them $160 for the effort and the wood crates that I didn't expect, and just because... And so they didn't have to give me change. It was so worth it. There are several charity thrift stores locally that sometimes sell them for 25 or 50 cents each. I've quit buying pints and quarts unless they're wide mouth. But I'll buy 4, 8, or 12 ounce for 50 cents or less. There are sometimes Classico jars or actual canning jars at the recycling stations that I'll collect if they're not too busy. Sometimes they have lids. I have also washed jars in the back yard a number of times before running them through the dish washer inside. Rather not have all that dirt end up in my septic tank. I used to not think about that until I started thinking about that. That dirt/mud does not go anywhere once it ends up there. I wash big dirt off of veggies outside as well. Comments (6)Hi Margee! I've been wondering that myself! I wish I knew the answer. I put out a roll call post a couple of years ago and got lots of replies, but still there is not as much activity as there used to be. That seems to be the case with a lot of the forum pages, not only the state centered ones, but the specialty plant forums as well; although it seems the rose forum is still pretty active. I really miss keeping up with the many friends I've made on here. We had a lot of fun with various games and funny posts! Some of the friends I've made here have became "in person friends" and we visit, chat, and trade plants all year. Now when many of us are more or less 'sheltering in place' it would seem a good time to revive the Texas Garden Web. So everybody whose reading this: post! Put pictures! Ask questions! I think it would help if more people who read posts would comment; even if just a few words. Sometimes we posters get the impression that no one is even reading what we put out there. By the way -- what variety IS that humongous rose bush??? :-)...See Morenannykins
