Watering daily seems like too much. Even when I start getting daily 100s later in the summer, I did not have to water daily. Be careful because that can make the soil be wet and soggy. If this persists for "too much time", the roots could catch root rot so, water when the soil feels dry in the top 4" (that is where the roots normally are located).

When you water, try never to get the leaves wet. Instead water the soil early in the mornings using soaker hoses or drip irrigation. But if you have a sprinkler system only, make sure that the station that waters the hydrangeas activates around sunrise so the leaves do not remain wet for long periods of time.

It is possible that some of the brown areas are caused by too much sun or water droplets during the sunny part of the day. The leaves could also be yellowing because of heat stress as paniculatas like Bobo like to show their feet in the summer... so they yellow out some foliage at the bottom of the shrub.

In year 1, I have temporarily used outside chairs and umbrellas to provide extra shade to newly planted hydrangeas.

Wet leaves promote some fungal infections like powdery mildew and brown/purple/yellow/reddish leaf spots.

To be honest I see very little "wrong" in that picture...looks fine to me.

I water mine daily, it's been super hot with little rain, zone 5 or 6, I consider it 5, but was recently changed to zone 6

Bobos being Paniculata hydrangeas are good in terms of water usage and should be able to go several days between waterings in a z5/6 (unless they are newly planted). (Btw bernebcca those two are looking very floriferous)

I agree. They do fine with water every 2 days when my temperatures are in the 100-115F range. But I have them in part shade.

interesting to hear they can go every other day. Maybe next year I will try that. Mine are on drip with two 2 gallon emitters each and it runs for 30mins, so I'm assuming they are getting about a gallon a day. I have five, only two bloomed last year this year they all showed up. Not sure if it's because they have just matured some or consistent watering. They are heavily mulched with compost and get full sun for 8 hours.

It depends on what is the water pressure amount, etc. In my drip irrigation, 1 hour = 1 gallon. I would also monitor soil drainage since they are close to a water downspout. I recently saw someone whose recently planted Limelight was in standing water when she made a 4-inch deep hole.

downspout goes underground and out of the bed, if they start showing signs of distress I will check drainage right now they are very happy, egads I can't do arithmetic..lol guess they may be getting 2gallons a day. No wonder the water bill doubled!
