Volga blue granite still can't decide on flooring and backsplash.
Comments (2)Well, I too have a seriously gorgeous granite going into our guest bath (labradorite blue - it's a remnant I found at a fabricator : )), and I've had a devil of a time finding anything to go above it. Mostly I've decided I want an etched glass, with as few groutlines as possible (may do a big piece of etched glass from a glass fabricator) so as not to have anything reflecting into the granite. Pics I see online of your volga blue with various backsplashes show that the differences in color really reflect back onto the granite, looking a bit spotty to me. So I'd suggest looking into a plate glass, if possible. Simple, modern, non-competing....See MoreI need help deciding on a backsplash, Please help...
Comments (7)How much backsplash do you have? Although I like the mosaic, if it were the whole backsplash I am not sure I would like it as much - it is much busier than the subways. But that is my preference and I agree if you want the backsplash to be the star, the mosaic will stand out. Other considerations - mosaic is more grout, and you need to be accurate lining up the sheets of mosaic, or it will look off. Have you considered running a few rows of the mosaic through the subway, similar to what you have done with the listello? I couldn't be sure flipping back and forth between pictures if the colors would work together....See MoreI need help deciding what color tile to change the backsplash to.
Comments (8)This is going to be a challenge. I agree that the current backsplash clashes with the new granite. I would not do white tiles. Here is what you need to keep in mind. You need a transition color that will play well with the oak and the counter. Side story: I had to do my BS twice. We put in BM Dove White cabinets but picked (I was out voted!) a brown/taupe Giallo granite counter. We put a white BS in and it looked horrible. It was fighting with the counter. I wound up with a Grazia Rixie crackle tile in a cream color. The cream of the tile matches with the cream in the granite and transitions nicely from the white of the cabinets. It is difficult to see, but I am hoping you have a cream tone in the counter. Your counter reads taupe to me so a very light taupe might work. Ignore the white appliance. At some point, I would like to see stainless because the white is too stark with your browns. I agree with lefty about lighting, but I doubt it will help as your current BS appears gold/yellow....See MoreCan't decide on backsplash
Comments (8)Your choices are lovely. Since I recently did my kitchen, so I share your backsplash pain. A couple of thoughts: Grout samples of smaller tiles that you’re considering and see how you like the look before you commit. There was a mix of grey and white marble mosaics that I liked - until I saw a grouted sample. The reason my contractor and I decided against arabesque is that the spaces between the tiles won’t be even - look very closely at example photos - so it would take a lot more work to do properly, especially since I wanted colored grout. The size of the tiles also varied slightly. Oddly, this was true even on large machine made arabesques. I didn’t want to spend the time and money on them. After much searching, I have the spirit of arabesque (married to Mod?) in these Walker Zanger tiles, which I really like. I’m not suggesting these as an option for you - the colors are very limited - rather to give you ideas about alternatives to arabesque....See MoreTheresa Janssen
